Questions for your child's teacher?

My little guy is in first year kindergarden. I have never heard one word from the teacher. I see the ECE most mornings when I drop him off. So I called the school on Tuesday, just saying I wanting to talk to Mrs. X and had a few questions and wanted a little bit of feedback. It's now Thursday and I haven't heard back.

Is that normal? My first child in school, so I'm not sure what the etiquette is.

Right now the teachers are nearing a strike and they have refused to do anything that is outside of regular classroom time which includes times of supervision (recess, lunch room etc) and will not provide progress reports unless board specific, nor will they be doing any parent/teacher meetings or conferences.
It's worse in the high schools, and they are gearing up to begin closing some of them. There have been 2 fires & a food fight at South Carleton high in Richmond already, and the board is recommending that parents be prepared for school closures.

As much as you may want a progress report, you may not get one for the time being.

If I were you, I'd stop by the school at the end of the school day, and try speak to her then. If she doesn't have time then, you can arrange a time.

Just last week I spoke with my child's teacher when I dropped her off for school...I asked him if he had a minute....kids were still outdoors....I asked why he was yelling at the kids ally the time, and why they only did math....this is no exaggeration .....later that afternoon, the principal phoned me, apparently I caused him to have a bad day....boohoo...the teacher is a real butt, reacted to principal like a bad kid that got caught....each school area has different policies, so best to check with your district

LOL...we have a communication book for the teacher. So I have written in it a couple of times. Also, I sometimes will go and drop off and talk to the teacher. My husband has gone to the pick up and talked to the teacher too. We have our interview with her next Friday morning.

my dd got a progress report,odd. She is in kindergarden though.

Anyway I know how you feel at first the kindergarden teacher avoided me a lot to,it is more the ece who is dealing with me,lol. Maybe it is a new thing?Sounds silly though. I am so not liking this school,but we can't switch because this one is 'closer' apparently.

both my 4 year olds kindergarden teacher and my 6 year olds grade one teacher are in almost constant communication with me. they both call me regularily and we have communication booklets for both. maybe our school is big on communication. i have also been encouraged to spend days in class to see for myself how things happen, which i did probably 5 times last year but havent been able to do yet this year. most of my days off are spent with docters appts for my youngest but when i have a free day i like to volunteer in the classroom because it gives me perspective on hearing the teachers comments about my children.

Some times may be the teacher is busy in that case you need to remind her regarding the matter. Hope she will get back to you.
