I recently did a trade for one and today I attempted to use it and at each and every store I went to it was declined and said not valid or something to that effect.
I tried using it at:
Gas Station
Walmart
Rexall
Superstore
Pet Valu
When I got home I called the number on the back of the card, entered the card number and it said it had $5 on it so .... how in the heck do I use this thing?!This thread is currently associated with: Kellogg's, Pet Valu, Pharmaplus, Real Canadian Superstore RCSS, Rexall PharmaPlus, WalmartInsert Clever Signature Here

You went to gascashrewards.ca and activated it, right? You should then be able to go to any store and tell them it's a $5 pre-paid MC. Have them charge $5 to the card, then the rest to your usual method of payment.
You can also pay bills that accept MC as payment. I ask them to take $5 off the amount, enter card number, expiry date, security code, and my balance is $5 less than when I started. You can use them all at once, or separately.
Of course, it's a lot easier to do all at once to an automated voice than have the Superstore cashier do it five times. I've used it at FreshCo, WM, and online billing.

You need to pay for your purchase minus $5 first, then use the card. If the amount owing is more than $5 the card will decline.

Not sure if it is activated yet as I got it in a trade so maybe they did that already? Will go to the website and try.
Question tho also, can I use the $5 Gas Card and then my Visa together? Everywhere I went said no, I had to pay with cash after for the remaining balance.Insert Clever Signature Here

I have paid for a purchase using a gas card and then a regular credit card multiple times. I just say I want to put $5 on the gas card, and the rest on a different card, and I've never had a problem at stores like Walmart, Food Basics, FreshCo - anywhere I've tried it, it's worked fine.

The cashier can't swipe the card. They have to do it as a $5 credit card transaction. So when I buy groceries, I say "you need to enter this as $5 mastercard" and then they do it. If you just swipe the card and the amount is over $5 it will decline. Think of it like a credit card with a $5 limit. If you are buying $5.01 it will decline as it's over your "limit."

Thanks for the advice guys! Will try it out. Really bums me though that a few places said I can't use this gas card AND my credit card on the same transaction as it won't let them. Think they are blowing smoke but after the advice for you all I think I know better now.
BTW - card had already been activated so I guess the issue was they weren't entering it as $5 (despite it saying on the card and me telling them that) they were just scanning it.Insert Clever Signature Here

Hi! Did it work? I used mine that day I met you at Walmart and you gave me coupons in line. The cool cashier put it in as a $5.00 credit and when it decreased the $5.00 from my bill, I paid the rest by M/C.

I tried using it at Subway last night for $5 (the amount on the card) and it was declined. I'm going to give it a few more shots and then if it still doesn't work I'm going to have to contact the person who I traded with for it.

I finally used it tonight at Metro. Total was $8 exactly so I asked to put $5 on credit card (was going to put the $8 on my credit card but being the genious I am I put the gas card in front of my VISA so I wouldn't forget about it) and payed the $3 with a toonie and loonie. Nothing like getting three loaves of bread, three boxes of lasagna, two half hams for $3 and 16 airmiles back

I've only done this at walmart - used 3 in one transaction so FREE !! I also think we should be able to buy $5 gift cards with this - since it's mastercard. Just a heads up for those with some they don't want to use right away. Has anyone tried that?
