Couponing in downtown Montreal really sucks.

I've been a couponer for about two years now and quite honestly, I've had mostly only negative experiences. I live downtown because my boyfriend is in university and I'm 3 blocks away from my work, which means we don't need a car (and can't really afford one either). While a lot of things are readily available here, couponing opportunities are really scarce. The grocery stores never have any tearpads or coupons available. The coupons at my SDMs in my area are always taken clean off the day they are put up. There are no Walmarts and employees in most stores are really rude. I get flyers the day before they're in effect and no scratch cards because people keep raiding my area. I can't get a decent stockpile because my apartment is tiny and because I'm in Quebec, trading (french) coupons is really hard. If I get English coupons though, employees use that as a reason not to accept them, because they supposedly don't understand them.

Thanks for reading everyone. I've had a particularly rough day and after a hard day's work, hoping for a scratch card, I was disappointed. Days like this make me wonder if it's worth the trouble...

That's too bad. I've never understood why people would take the entire tear pad. Just take what you need and leave the rest for others.

That really bothers me... how hard is it to look at a coupon and see the expiry date, and if applicable, a list of products the coupon can be used on? The rest is easy peasy. You don't have to be multilingual to understand the most basic parts of a coupon! Sorry... I just have a major hate on Quebec sometimes... baah.
That sucks that you aren't having much success!

HI Sorry to hear about your bad experience with couponing and your rough day at work. Hope today is a better day for you This is what I do:
    1. In every store there is always one cashier that is not coupon friendly. Find the ones that are. Go to them everytime. No stress.
    2. Trade for coupons on SC's for the coupons I'm looking for.( Wonderful group of people)
    3. Just once I had a cashier say she couldn't take a coupon as it was French and she couldn't read it. I said," Are you kidding? This is a Billingual country. Let me speak to the manager please." All of a sudden the coupon was acceptable. I always try to have 1- English coupon ( that I show the cashier and keep) and use up my French coupons first. You would do the opposite
    4. I always ask the cashier if she wants the coupons before , with each purchase or after the transaction. This always gets them talking.
    5. I always smile and Thank them for doing such a great job with the coupons. I honestly can see how frustating it must be reading such fine print on some of them.
    6. I think of how much money I'm saving for my family and think of them when I'm couponing. It gives me that extra little push.
    7. Yes, it is worth it. Hang in there. It will work out for you. .P.M. me your address, let me know what kind of coupons your looking for, check your mailbox in a week or two and they will be there
