There have been threads started with this idea in the past, and they don't often last.
I agree with bhlombary - I don't think having such a thread is a commendable idea at all. It's basically exploiting stores. Yes, I know some people will scoff and say that it is the store's responsibility to make sure their prices are correct. And that's true - that's why SCOP exists: to protect the consumer from price errors. But for SCOP to be legitimate, it should be applied in situations where the customer's intent was never to get something for free, but rather to get it at the promised price. If one person stumbles upon an incorrectly priced product, gets SCOP, and then tells everyone about it on a forum like SC, it's just opening the doors to a widespread abuse of SCOP.
At the end of the day, SCOP is voluntary and it's something that participating stores have signed on to participate in. They don't have to offer it. And chances are, they won't if it's abused.Last edited by Aimz; Fri, Jan 18th, 2013 at 02:20 PM.

I don't know if a thread on this is a good idea or not. What I do know is that if the retailers priced things correctly or change the tags immediately after a SCOP was found then this thread would never even come up. I am tired of companies gouging customers because their staff are too lazy to sign things properly. I am not impressed when I think something is $2.99 on sale and then I get home to find I was charged $4.99. Happens all too often and not always do I catch it.

I agree

But it also works the other way round...imagine how many customer's pay the high price bcoz the retailer refuses to fix the price inspite of one customer getting a SCOP.
Its a cost of doing business for them , their attitude sometimes is that we don't care if someone here and there gets a SCOP as long as we can keep on overcharging others ( who don't notice the SCOP ) ..so they don't really bother fixing the price.
If more and more people start getting a SCOP , maybe they will get serious about actually having the right price tags in the store.

Yeah , its their job to have the right price in the store..the onus should not be on us to notice the error when the product gets scanned.
Whenever I am at a grocery store , I watch the screen as a hawk when they are scanning my products..as almost always atleast one item scans wrong and I have to correct it .
I don't even want a SCOP , all I want is to pay the right price ,And not the higher price.
I waste lot of time looking at the screen , when I could use the same time to bag my groceries as the products are being scanned.
Now I have to wait till the last item is scanned as I am busy watching the screen , before I start bagging my groceries. This creates a delay for me as well as the person behind me, as the belt is now blocked with my groceries.
Now if they had the right prices in the first place , I would start bagging each product as soon as it was scanned , instead of looking at the screen

That would be ideal - then we'd have no need for SCOP (getting anything free) because prices would always be right.
Of course, it might also mean that retailers stop participating in SCOP because of its abuse. So if an item scans wrong, you get it at the shelf price, and nothing less.
Abuse of any policy is wrong.Last edited by Aimz; Fri, Jan 18th, 2013 at 02:32 PM.

Agree.
I may post deals from time to time if I actually find one before it's posted on here but I don't post my SCOPs. I just consider myself fortunate to have stumbled on it and leave it at that.

I've marked this thread as expired because it is my belief that a thread like this is abusing SCOP and therefore this thread should not exist. If you feel the same way please also click "mark as expired" on the original post, it takes 3 people to do this for the thread to be expired.

Here is a printable copy of the SCOP in case someone needs it.
http://www.docstoc.com/docs/32439171...DE-OF-PRACTICE
It does list the part about identical items so that help when they only want to give you one item free when you have different varieties of the item with different UPCs.

Ever heard of "thou shalt not defraud"? It's not a SC rule, but a rule of life. Expiring this thread too. It's not right to do this.

I have been in a similar situation this week and I first wanted to be nice and I told the manager that I was a cashier my self so I new the policy and that I actually had it with me if he wanted to have a refresh. He says that it was only one free and that if I have a complain I should call the head office so I told the manager : Ok fine I will call the head office and I will need your complete name and your position. Im also going to take a picture of the price on the shelf and scan my receipt so I can prove them that I was right.
Now he agree to read the policy .... and I was right got all the items for free. Was suppose to pay more than 30$ but paid 0$. Now they always follow the SCOP policy.
