Random thought-wouldn't it be nice to own my own place, get some renos done and then decide if I wanted the driveway cleared or not. To dream

    SassyAshley!

I have noticed the same thing. I thought it was just me. What is going on? Girl power-shmirl power, they get the same snow we do. They even have toys to help do it-snow blowers and they still complain. Like DH comes in and says I just did the driveway (followed by an exhausting sigh), really?

I saw three pre-teen girls walking the neighbourhood with shovels. No boys. Saw some teen guys walking around looking cool.
The girls approached us in the summer about lawn mowing. They come in the fall about raking leaves. The leaves rate was $10 per hour for the oldest girl $5 per hour for the middle girl and the tiny one (smaller than the rake, LOL). Was $2.50. Minimum payment was $5 -- they were real business ladies and I think they got lots of money -- $25 in one hour I heard them yell across the street.

So, as I said before , GIRL POWER!!!

Sure a girl can do it, but they shouldn't have to, especially not alone! Those were not men standing there watching the women do all the work... ick! Old school over here & believe fellas should do these things for/with the ladies; along with opening doors, standing when a lady enters a room, holding her elbow if it is icy, walking on the outside of the sidewalk... basic things that we are teaching our own boys to do even though it doesn't seem to be the norm anymore. This post should have read what happened to all the gentlemen?

OP asked, "Where are all the men?"
Answer: They will be out in the Spring, after the snow is all shovelled and melted. It will be raining men, then. Here is a sneak peek

In our town, when it snows, all the men are shovelling snow at the old folks homes. I swear some men get so excited about being able to use there snow blowers that they then start snow blowing everything they can.

No idle hands in this town. I met my friend Dan a couple years ago clearing snow.

I see nothing wrong with women doing the shovelling, when there is men outside do you ask where the women are?

On a side note in my neighbourhood it is the men that are out clearing the snow, I don't drive around asking them why their wives aren't outside ;/

I grew up with two brothers! Which meant no yard work for me or my two sisters! (well, almost none )
I don't care what anyone says -- a woman just wants to see a man doing the heavy duty work. 1900's or 2013, it is still the man's job.

Women are all for equal rights and stomping their feet, but when it comes to doing some hard work... oh it's the mans job

    that's nice.

I am more than willing to help with anything whether it be "man's work" or "women's work". If my guy was outside doing something I would be outside helping him which is the point, instead of watching me shovel why don't they come and help common sense one would think, especially when I will admit I am not as strong as most men. I used to be a lot stronger but suffered a shoulder injury in my teens and have never gotten back to lifting the heavy objects I used to lift.

I never said it was a man's job but again helping would be nice, there are many a things I will admit I cannot do that a man can do. Great example last week I had to bring a saw into work, it was loaded for me by my dad since it was his saw and I was using his car to bring it in. When I got it to work, I could not lift it so I asked one of the guys to do it for me, why I admit I could not do it. Does it mean I do not have equal rights no. There are just some things men can do women cannot and vice versa.

The point is not is it a man's job or woman's job the point is yes men tend to be stronger (pure fact) and to just stand there and watch the women struggling is I am sorry a bit low. If the men had of come out to help I would not have stopped and gone inside I would have keep working. I just could not help but notice out of 24 units so we will say 20 have men living in them only 1 man come out yet there were numerous women out there.

For the most part if a man can do it I can do it, very rarely were we let off helping out because we were girls (did it happen maybe a few times, but it was usually because the girls were assigned something else to do). But at the same time you could argue guys do the same thing. I did not want to out and help haul away the tree we just cut down, ok I didn't have to why because someone had to make lunch which the boys weren't offering to do why "because when the girls make it, it tastes better". It goes both way.

My point was never that I could not do it, my point was why could they not help. I mean really standing there watching us and not offering to help was my issue.

They could have been sitting at home with an injury. Or worked the night shift, or cleared the snow the day before and now it's the other partners turn - division of household labour is up to the individual.

Understandably you have an injury and you cannot physically do things and there is nothing wrong with asking for help, but labeling things as woman's work and man's work, as some others pointed out I do not agree with, and that's just my opinion. and yes I am a woman

Just for the sake of finding out whether my folks would spend $25 to get someone to clear the driveway (once and probably not the walks), I asked my mother about her willingness to pay someone to clear snow if my brother or I were not home. The reply was "I don't think so."

Should I be away from home during a future snow day, I don't expect to see much snow shovelled at home. Particularly if the metal roof dumps its snow load-it can freeze quickly on the sidewalk if not tended to within 10 minutes.

The men washed their cars on Monday-gee, the water added to the ice on the driveway...Upside, the house was not affected by the meltoff that day, as most snow around the foundation had been cleared away the day before (mostly by me and Dad did some clearing Sun morning after the snow slid off the roof-that was a rumble at 6:30am). My back is still miffed at me.

I can't profess to understand God's plan. Christ promised the resurrection of the dead. I just thought he had something a little different in mind.
