Thread: laundry detergent jugs
-
Thu, Mar 7th, 2013, 09:45 AM #1
So it really bothers me that when I get to the end of a laundry detergent jug and I can see some still left in the bottom, but it just will not come out because it gets stuck under the spout!
I hate to throw it out knowing that there is just enough detergent to do 1 more wash in the jug.
Yesterday I got looking at the spout and decided I could put a little screwdriver along the side of the spout and pop it off. Yes!! Success.... it worked!
I now can really use each last drop out of the laundry detergent jugs. I got a little few drops sprayed on me though becuase my face was right over it, but hold it right and that shouldn't happen to you.
Now my money will go even farther

I would just put a bit of water in the jug, slosh it around, and it all comes out...

I do the same thing as Natalka. But your trick would work too.

i tried the water trick and it didn't work for me? This is the stuff that is like behind the liner of the bottle. Maybe I am doing it wrong?

I do the water mixing too.. or I put the jug in the washer as the water pours in, and take it out when I put the clothes in.. if i'm in a hurry.

Like Natalka said.
Add a little water. Shake. Pour into washer.
Add a little more water. Shake. Pour into water.
As you do this, the detergent in the jug gets more diluted until you are pouring mostly water into the washer.
Works with liquid fabric softener too. Plus, sometime the liquid fabric softener gets thicker as the amount gets less in the jug. You can add a little water to the thicker fabric softener and keep the jug like this until your next laundry load.
Same for concentrated dish detergent, to stretch it more.Last edited by Shwa Girl; Fri, Mar 8th, 2013 at 06:59 AM.

I've popped of the spout for years, then turn the bottle and store it upside down. the next time I'm ready for laundry, I've got almost every last drop. My dh calls me cheap, I prefer to think of it as saving for the next fabulous trip

Mine would dare call me cheap! LOL Since he is the breadwinner in the house it is his money I am saving

I have a top loader and if I put too much water in it, it gets too bubbly and wont fit in the little detergent part, & to the poster who suggested it for dish detergent, I do that too !!
Works great doesn't it?

I do the same as Natalka, but I also do that for shampoo, conditioners, bodywashes, etc... When its getting down to empty, I stand them up on their tops to get every drop of the product, and with the cleansers, I add water to it, splash it around a bit, then use the last of the shampoo or body wash.

I just put a little water in and shake it around. Seems to work well for me!
But good to know that the spouts do pop off. That makes me think of all kinds of uses for the finished jugs!
