A fertilizer plant near Waco, Texas has exploded. There are reports that people in an adjacent apartment building and in a nearby nursing home are hurt and trapped, there are firefighters down and possibly 100 or more victims expected at local hospitals. Troopers are transporting victims in their patrol cars to hospitals.
You really have to read the articles to get a feeling of what's going on there. Scary.
Right out of Texas with a life First Responder scanner to listen to if you are so inclined: http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2013/04/17/f...north-of-waco/

They were using a local football field as a makeshift triage for all of the victims but are now moving to a softball field because of the fumes coming from the plant.

The town of west where the plant was is being fully evacuated. Estimates put the death toll between 70 and 80 and a second explosion may be imminent.

I was reading that too gryphon about the updated casualties. 70 or so dead (as it stands now) and hundreds injured is a large number when your town only has 2700 residents.
Cue the Conspiracy Theorists! Although I will admit the first thing I thought was potential terrorism? As Darth mentioned about the fertalizer.
lol Mia, actually there aren't too many stations reporting on it I'm actually surprised.

That was an interesting read xo and wow that was a lot of deaths at that time. You're right though, right on the heals of Boston. It's been a tough week for the US.

Here is a video of the explosion as it happens. Warning: It's gut wrenching as you hear the little girl pleading with her Dad and saying she can't hear. Shivers I tell ya.
