I have a sibling who moved this year to washington DC. She moved in as the hired help for an undisclosed wealthy person. I finally decided to go for the long weekend and there were several things that were awesome about my trip.
Firstly her boss is rarely home. He is super relaxed and she and we had run of a multimillion dollar estate while he was away. He had three balconies and giant everything. It felt fabulous to be so well housed for the long weekend.
Secondly most museums in DC are free. I had no idea about this but all the smithsonians are free and we went into several and they were pretty great this included the national zoo. My daughter had a wonderful time.
Thirdly The guy who owns the home has children. Since money is no object in that home (they have 4 homes and my sibling cares for one) his childrens playroom which they don't use is so stocked with toys its literally a like a toy store. My daughter could have stayed inside everyday perfectly content. So she played a lot and the last day we were there the family came home and the little boy just started offering toys to my daughter. Which we gladly took back. I would say they gave us 50-100 dollars worth of used toys.
The final story is shopping. I went to TJ Maxx and went crazy. I purchased pretty much all my daughters christmas and birthday gifts for the year and a lovely name brand jogging suit for her. I bought three high end bras for myself. I bought high end snacks for the road. A lovely book on traveling. I expected for some reason to pay around 150. Which is why I was excited to find myself oweing 74.99. They had 3% tax. My husband got golf clubs. I can't comment on if it is a deal but he thinks he saved 250 between taxes and price differentials. Overally I feel very fortunate to have gotten to travel to Washington DC. I recommend it to anyone. This thread is currently associated with: N/A

And don't fly into a DC airport. Go to Baltimore, cheaper ticket and a short train ride into DC

Awesome brag glad that you had a great time. DC is beautiful and full of free museums.
Thinking of opening an ING account use this number 35728975S1 and both of us get a $50!! dollar bonus.
