I love these type of "hidden" messages. I figured out that Koolaid works just as great as paint BUT it smells better and if the kids happen to drink some of it, its not a 911!


1-Write your message on a white piece of paper with a white crayon.


2-Mix 1/2 tsp. {cherry} Koolaid and 1 Tbl. water for the "paint".


3-Uncover the hidden message by using the "paint".

Hula Hoop DIY

I bought 3/4 inch black (its much cheaper) irragation pipe.
I used 1/2 inch for the girls.
Each hoop needs a double end fitting of size of pipe.


You'll need to measure the height of the hoop to the person by creating a hoop with the pipe that reaches somewhere between the hips and armpits.
Cut the pipe with a hack saw, quick- cheap- easy.
No need for the cutting tools that ranged from $10-$50.
Since I didn't figure it was necessary for a simple craft I left it on the shelf.

Place fitting in one end securely.

Then loop pipe around and push the two ends together tightly.

Secure with duct tape.

This is where the costs soared.
Have you ever bought multiple rolls of tape, it is rather expensive I might say.
Here is the choices we found.
I was later informed that Walmart carried many more styles for cheaper...*of course.

It takes a lot of time to get the tape on even and smoothly but it is worth it.
It also makes the hoop more rigid and this is of great benefit when learning to hula.

We spent so much time making these it was mid afternoon before we came up for air.

Shakers and other noisemakers:
• Use a plastic container with a lid – water bottle, yogurt drink, ice cream tub. (Paper towel tubes or toilet rolls will work too. Just cover the ends with a balloon and secure with elastics.) Small cups or a Pringles container will work well too.
• Insert rice, lentils, pasta, split peas, beads, or buttons. (They each make a different sound – make a few different shakers.)
• Coloured paper, streamers, fabric scraps, paint, stickers. Anything you want to use for decorating! Kids will love using a variety of things to make their instrument just right.
• Use a few canning lids to tap together. Tie on a few ribbons and they’re ready to play.
Drums:
• Tins of different sizes – take off and discard lid, wash cans. Keep lid on one end, you can hit either end for different sounds.
• Balloons – to stretch over the end of the tin. Use tape or elastics to secure. (You can also make this a shaker too by inserting any shaker material listed above.)
• Wooden or plastic spoons or even chopsticks can be used for drumsticks.
Baton for someone to lead the band:
• Push or glue a foam ball on the end of a dowel.
• Cover the ball with a square of felt, secure with an elastic or ribbon.
• Add some ribbons or coloured tape to decorate.
Turn up the music and enjoy the grins as you play along with your own instruments!

Fun addition card game for Guided Math! Kids line up cards in four rows of five. Then, they flip two cards over. If the sum of the two cards equals 10, they keep the cards and replace the cards with two more from the deck. The game ends when there are no more matches left. A match includes 6 and 4, 7 and 3, 8 and 2, 5 and 5. Whoever has the most cards wins the game!

DIY TEMPORARY TATTOOS

Use a gel pen in a dark color to draw the design. The free-flowing ink in gel pens will transfer readily from the paper to your skin once the design is in place. Simply draw your design on paper such as tracing paper or parchment paper using a pencil, then color in thoroughly using the gel pen. Use as much ink on one line as you can, but there is no need to make a river of ink!

That's brilliant!!! How come I never thought of that? Whenever I play a game with kids, I'm always the one that ends up chasing the dice around the room, after they've been enthusiastically rolled.

Ocean in a bottle. Inspiration came from bhoomplay.
You need:
transparent plastic bottle, filled 1/3 up with water
blue food colouring
sunseed oil ( or similar) to fill the rest of the bottle
maybe some seashells, stones, fishes in plastic, we used small ocean themed plastic beads
The oil and water does not mix, the oil creates slow waves in the water when you turn it back and forth. No need to say: A loved it, and L spied after all the small fishes and seashells. I love this kind of crafting, super easy, cheap and lots of fun.

You can use lids as game pieces. The gameboard was made on with the Giant Game Floor Mat. You can make your own by using wide mailing tape to attach gallon ziplock bags to a vinyl tablecloth or a shower curtain. But the purchased one is very sturdy, able to withstand lots of walking and standing. The game mat comes with a spinner and beanbag, too, so you can make lots of different types of games.

Or make a twister game. We were talking about helping and I put the letters H, E, L, and P in the mat's pockets (repeatedly). I made cards with the letters and either a hand or foot; the cards went into a bag. A kid pulled a card and put his hand/foot on that letter.

You could put pictures, letters, colors, and so forth in the pockets. Kids would toss the beanbag on the mat. Or put actions in the pockets and toss the beanbag. Kids do that action. More ideas can be found online.
