I agree, $1000 isn't really that hard to believe. And you do get some money if you've spent that amount. I know we spend around $150 at Christmas time on chocolate for stockings, gifts, and after holiday clear out. So for 2 Christmases alone we've already spent $300. Add in Halloween, Easter (and after holiday cheap stuff!), s'mores during the summer, and treats every now and then and $1000 isn't that surprising.
Although personally I know $2000 in 2 years is much more than we've spent.
As far as the form asking for number of people in the household (I haven't done it myself, just going by a comment already posted) - I imagine that has to do with evaluating your estimate. If only 1 person is in your household, and you're claiming to have spent $2000 there may be some skepticism.

even if it was real,
1. this is being spread, with info to "help your memory"..so basically lie and get $50
2. only a tiny fraction of the 23.2 million would be going to consumers , so im not helping someone/group make a ton of money
3. all chocolate bars cost the same to us in stores.., so how are they price fixing chocolate...
4. i like hersheys chocolate, why would i want to hurt them.....

I have no idea how much I spent on chocolate during the time specified. I am also pretty positive that I did not spend enough to qualify for the $50 amount. I know that this is not a scam because I have seen it on multiple news programs however I will not provide my banking info for $20ish. It is not worth the risk.

I agree with you nash0109....I will not release my banking info for that small amount of money even if I have spent enough on chocolate. The whole point of the lawsuit was that these companys have been price fixing chocolate for years. Now I am waiting to see if the prices of chocolate come down with this settlement. ( And no, the occasional "sale" does not count in my books!) Just my 2 cents!

You don't need to provide your banking information; that's only if you fill out the form online.
You can call and request a paper copy of the form, and you don't need to give banking info that way.

Ive filled the form out online... 1000.00 is easy once you include all the holidays, movies, birthdays, baking etc. I used a bank acct that I have very little money in. It will probably be a year away before we see any of that money anyway

Why would the online claim form be different than the paper copy? That does not make sense to me. I would assume that it is the same form that can be submitted in writing as opposed to electronically. I absolutely do not understand why they would request bank info. They should send out cheques, not direct deposit.

I'm sorry - but I hope that any of you greedy enough to do this fraudulently for the $50 do get your bank accounts wiped out. Sick and tired of the greed I see on this site.

No one's bank account is going to be wiped out. Having someone's account number lets you put money into the account. You need more than the account number to take money out.
Abuse coupons, not people!

I LOVE chocolate. I mean LOVE it. Chocolate and caramel combination are my favourite. I buy a lot of chocolate for various reasons. Usually from dollarama because it's the cheapest. I can not even begin to think I have spent over $100 per month for 2 years on chocolate. I watch my money pretty closely and know where 90% of it goes and I'm positive it wasn't on chocolate.
I just hope people that are making these claims are being honest and forthright with their claims.
