My fave is Halloween. Now that I have kids, I can live it through them, and that just makes it so much more fun

I don't do anything xmas, and always grumble when they start playing music a whole month before, but really if it wasn't there what else would we do between November and January?

Valentine's Day--not everyone wants to be swamped with canned music about love or heart-shaped symbols ad nauseum. Should change it to Chocolate Day and also raise awareness of cocoa plantation realities for youth who are working in the plantations and may be without family support or even in another country to earn a living, rather than going to school.

In Japan, women give the treats in February to men; in March the men give the treats to women.

Halloween>would like to see it less of a scary night/costume party and more like the Mexican Day of the Dead (not a fan of skulls) tradition of remembering people (visiting gravesites, bringing out photos, sharing stories and foods with others) who passed away. It's like a Memorial Day in November. And it would align more closely to All Souls Day.

I'm happily married and I find Valentine's day stupid lol. It's totally a made up holiday. They needed to boost sales after the post-Christmas slump that retailers experience. DH still always buy me and DD flowers and chocolates but really it's just an excuse to pamper your loved one, which you shouldn't need a holiday for.

If everyday could be Halloween, I would be very happy wereWOLFIE!!

I am with you there is only one, Halloween

I could live without xmas even though I love the decorations, (everyone is always in a biatch of a mood, stressed out lol). Easter, what's the point unless you're religious. Valentines, meh, St. Patrick's, whatever lol.

Statutory holidays should be secular anyways.

November 11th should be a stat holiday and we need one in February sometime to break the monotony of winter.

I`m with Patty...November 11 should be a statutory holiday. I don`t care about any of the others.

I could do without my Birthday I am just tired of getting old besides m a giver not a taker, makes me so happy to give gifts that mean something and love the smiles that my kids have when they open gifts. I could definitely do without valentines why oh why do men always spend so much on roses? why not buy a potted plant or beautiful bouquet of spring time flowers way cheaper and they actually last longer then a day.

    I can't believe I just read that!

(I do absolutely adore Spring flowers, though. Thank God I grow my own!)

DH knows I have a strict NO FLOWERS rule in my house. I cannot stand flowers inside - not only do they bother my allergies but it makes me feel sad knowing they're dying.

I already know what DH is getting me for Valentines day --- Netflix. lol. I've wanted it for awhile but I'm completely tech illiterate and DH has been super busy at work BUT he's promised I'll get it by Valentines day since it's the ONLY thing I want.

For myself I'm not big on Valentines but I love doing all the little heart/love activities with the kids. We just finished doing DD's class valentines last night and it was so much fun.

I agree with you about Nov. 11, for sure.

We have a provincial holiday in February - it's this coming Monday, Family Day.

    Small rant here:

    November 11th

Why in the name of blue blazes do we celebrate such mundane things as Valentines, St. Patricks blah blah blah and not have a day for perhaps the most important people who gave us this freedom and beautiful country?

It blows my mind where our priorities are.

Patty, but QC gets a holiday in June others don't. Well, now that I see the full list, it sure varies across the country.

Time to lobby your provincial government for more holidays, Patty!

Remembrance Day is a federal statutory holiday - exceptions are NS, NWT, ON and QC. The Holidays act designates it as one, but leaves it up to the provinces.
The Legion would rather not have it be a stat, they think then people would just see it as another day off. They like it when schools have programs that day.
However, here schools have their programs and observances the day before, and often families go to the civic Remembrance Day program.

I know many more people who observe Remembrance Day than Valentine's or St. Patrick's Day, that's for sure.
