I'm not sure why you're defending him, he's (finally) admitted he was dead wrong to make light of this - and apologized - both publicly and personally to the Ukranian ambassador. If Harper had said something so profoundly stupid you would be after his head. And if Harper had said it, so would I. Don't be so partisan, Patty, that you defend the indefensible just because it's 'your guy'. That does nothing at all to advance one's credibility.

Where do I defend him? I am pointing out what type of show it is. No one bothered to post a link to the show.

It was not Question period it is a comedy show. Too soon? Yes. Did I sat he made a mistake yes. At least I can admit when "my guy" makes a mistake.

Dave I would list all of Harper's mistakes but I don't have all day. When Trudeau is PM maybe then we can have a discussion and compare actual POLICY and not his hair, wealth or age and whether he put in his foot in his mouth again.

eta - actually I withdraw my statement about Harper's mistakes and would like to rephrase it to read The Conservative Party mistakes because he is clearly not alone in this. One man cannot singularly destroy a country it's takes the whole party.

When this first happened I couldn't help but think of Steve Irwin who also died "out of his realm" so to speak.

Since I do see we are discussing Trudeau's comments I will say this, when will politicians realize that comedy and serious issues just don't go together? Yes I realize that it was a "humour infused show" (or however I heard it referred as) but it's just very dangerous territory to try to navigate. In my opinion.

Having said that, it's obvious his words were not intended in malice, he didn't say them in the House of Commons, during Question period, or in the middle of a media scrum, so move on. Oh, and *gasp* he not only apologized BUT he called the President (or is it Prime Ministers) of Ukraine and Russia to apologize. What I find funny and sad about the attacks on Trudeau is that the BEST that the Conservatives can do and/or find to "attack" him with is a dumb comment he may make here or there. Good.

Now the Conservatives on the other hand... they are going ahead on pushing the "Fair election Act" bill through so that no one will ever know what happened with that Robo Call scandal. Hmmm. What's little Stevie got to hide??!

Why should he be invited?

It's not a social visit. Not appropriate in my opinion. He has no powers and I doubt if the situation were reversed if he would take any cons or ndp with him.
