Good Afternoon people. It is a delightful sunny day out there. I thought I would stop by for a visit. I am dealing with a few personal issues at the moment & a sudden serious illness with a family member. She had emergency brain surgery a couple of nights ago. So much is happening all at once & I have to remind myself to take it slow, gentle & easy....otherwise, I get overwhelmed.

Looking into a program known as CALM (cancer and living meaningfully). Cancer has so many dimensions & one of the keys to keeping on an even keel is to allow yourself to express your true feelings from time to time. Being positive, hopeful & happy isn't always possible or practical 100% of the time. Thankfully tears are just a temporary companion & there is most always some brightness that is reachable.

One of my favourite things about this time of year.....

Although I feel sad & sort of under the weather,
I’ll still rep you, cause we’re in this together,
Rep for the people, who are lounging,
& rep for the ones who are hungry & scrounging,
Rep if you’re bright eyed & on your game,
& rep for the free spirits, that they try to tame,
Rep if you have scheduled some relaxation,
& rep in the name of whatever that needs no explanation,
Rep for the people who are feeling confused,
& rep for the thinkers who keep us bemused,
Rep if you have a refreshment pleasing to your palette,
&reps if you’re one who would never spoil your ballot,
Rep if you know the score without keeping tally,
& rep if you've ever dated a girl named Sally,
Extra rep for the days that just seem to drag,
& rep if you've shared a double sleeping bag,
Reps of encouragement if you need a lift,
& rep if you daydream & allow your thoughts to drift,
Rep for keeping your mind on the job,
& rep for the girls who have dated a guy named Bob,
It has also occurred to me to rep people who are tried & true,
Cause they are the such rep-able folks cause they are there for you,
Rep for being prepared & rep for accepting events that throw you off course,
& rep for knowing that determined people know that there is always a source,
Finally rep for being people who live with empathy & compassion,
& rep for getting out there & sharing this fashion!

My s-i-l remains in hospital. It's been a hard week for me. I wish I felt more energetic today. I'm not feeling like me. I am going to force myself to get outside in the garden & just listen to the sounds of life around me. Buzzing of lawn mowers, kids playing, BBQ's getting fired up, my favourite chain saw adoring neighbour who has been going strong for the last couple of hours. I think it will help my brain fog & my blahs!

I will be back at the hospital next week & I have a couple of procedures waiting for me. Thank goodness for the volunteer driver program & the Canadian Cancer Society. They are superstars! Back towards the end of 2012 when I had my 33 radiation treatments, I relied on the CCS to get me downtown Monday to Friday for those 33 treatments. Meeting them & getting to know them has been one of the highlights of this *illness* if there are highlights. I wrote them a thank you poem when my treatments concluded. It was just before Christmas of 2012. Some of them are still volunteering & I see them on a regular basis. If I have already posted this poem, excuse me. They deserve honourable mention again.

    For My Drivers:

How can a simple thank you suffice as an expression of gratitude?

They drove me in & took me home with an upbeat attitude,

Taking me to Princess Margaret, so I could be radiated,

Also understanding the times when I was uptight & frustrated,

Florence, Bryan & Cathy I tip my hat to you,

Transporting all us passengers & through brutal traffic too!

Robert, Terry & Greg you also get a wave,

Consider it one of excellence & along with two guys named Dave,

Graham Chalmers I must admit you know how to make us laugh,

You are the kind of guy who is near the top of the mirthful graph!

Peter Jones & Sandy Arnott, thumbs up are also sent your way express,

For the rides in first class comfort & a light touch of finesse,

Moira Alley gentle & calm sure knew her way around town,

For being in her company made it impossible to feel down,

Stan Abbott seemed to always know the perfect thing to say,

As he always got us downtown & most always without delay,

To Janet Wilkes & Emily Sangster immeasurable with support,

When it comes to compassion & empathy, you sure top the report,

I sure hope I haven’t missed anyone in this simple little note,

As all of you are more than volunteers & you have the right to gloat!

    Hey Loocie
Lilacs are a fav of mine too, a wonderful sign winter was gone. I remember in high school walking about the neighborhood at lunchtime and we'd steal a slip of lilacs to take back to school. With winter gone, the windows were opened letting in cool lazy breezes and the classroom filled with fragrance. Was near impossible to listen to what the teacher was saying, I was usually lost in a some daydream .

Sounds like you had a rough week. Hope you get refreshed mind, body and soul.
