I had the nicest weekend and all my activities were free. Two museums, one pool, one outdoor gym, lots of walking, a picnic, lots of vegetable juice too. A lot of people think you have to spend money to have a good time. It's not true...well at least not in Montreal.

Montreal is awesome for outdoor activities and festivals specially in the summer.
Thinking of opening an ING account use this number 35728975S1 and both of us get a $50!! dollar bonus.

Sounds like lots of fun. We are taking the train to Montreal for 3 days in July with our almost 2-year old son. Can't wait! We will be doing free things too.

Oh well the pools are free to Montreal city residents. I am not sure what they charge tourists. You could always pretend like you just moved to Montreal and get a few days free at the local YMCAs .... most of them offer trial passes. As for the museums this last weekend was Montreals museum day. So we did the activities related to that. When you come though keep you eyes on the look out for inexpensive or free events posted here: http://www.montrealfamilies.ca/ ; but there are free days at many museums in montreal. You can if you are under 30 go to most of the musee des beau arts free...kids are always free. It depends on your kids interests though..and july is great for the festivals and fireworks which are largely free. I hope you enjoy the city when you come.

Ever since I got the enlightenment of coupon stacking, I realized my family can have all sort of fun without paying admission fee (or paying like a minimal charge) or buying ride tickets. I started to look for FREE activities for kids online and plan our every weekend around it for the past few years. We would be going to "military or historic" places like museum for free on remembrance day plus a lot of Free kids activities like wagon rides. Every third sunday YMCA is free for admission, so free swim. We have a theme park (rides) that have appreciation dates each year that we used to go in for Free (but now they charge $5) and we went every year as we cannot justified the cost of membership if we only can go couple times a year. And many many other places like grand opening of kids gymnastic places, store events (like lego at Toys "R" us), building projects at home depot, public library activities, museum anniversary complimentary day, street festivals. Kids have good clean fun every weekend !
Sometimes we could end up going to three different places/activities in one day and exhaust ourselves as there are so many great places that we could enjoy and not to have to break our bank.
