I'm interested in doing this but I have a couple of questions. 1) Do you have to be on other trains at the moment to qualify to participate in this one? 2) How does our "buddy" get decided, is it random? 3) Is there a link to other years threads on this? It would be fun to look through and see what other people got sent other years Thanks!

Ill try and answer, Ive rode for the last few years! No you do not need to be riding other trains at the time as long as you "fit" the qualifications posted at the beginning of the thread. Buddy are choosen by conductor usually through a random draw using Randomizer or something like that. 2013 Advent train can be found here: http://forum.smartcanucks.ca/369909-army-slammies-crazy-christmas-advent-package-train-canada/

Nope, we just want a list to ensure that your current trains are enroute with no issues on your end (because these would not have a trade rating yet)
Buddies are chosen by random.org but some will be re-picked if they have sent to that person recently on a package train
scbpooh gave the link so no point repeating it

Fallen, where do you sign up for the card exchanges? In the past they have been stickies but couldn't see the Thanksgiving one. Would definitely like to sign up for the Christmas one.

Thinking about participating, but was wondering if anyone that has participated in the past could tell me approx how much I'd be looking to spend? Lots of people to buy for Xmas, so just want to make sure it fits in the budget

It really depends on you (and how well you shop too). I got my buddy quite a few of her most wanted last time I did advent but I know others spent more for lesser items because we pick up stuff through the year on clearance and put them away for gifts and I got really lucky with some clearance.
You need to send 25 gifts plus shipping so it will add up, but they are generally smaller things since filling a wishlist with all more expensive and hard to find items would be unfair (and will be sent back to add easier items)
