It’s National Dog Bite Prevention this week and
we would like to provide you with some tips on
how to stay safe around canines in your home in
and neighborhood.
As a Dog Owner:
•
Make sure your pet is as socialized as possible from a young age. Slowly introduce them to new
people, animals, and situations so they are comfortable in most situations.
•
Ensure your best buddy has good manners. At the very least your dog should respond immediately
to the sit, come, stay, and leave it commands.
•
Obey all rules in your community. Your dog should be on leash unless in a specified off-leash area and
should have their city dog license if required.
•
Never leave your dog alone with a baby or young child.
As a Dog Lover/Parent:
•
Remember that any dog has the ability to bite.
•
Do not approach or attempt to touch a dog that is eating, sleeping, playing with a toy, or looking after
puppies.
•
Do not try to pet a dog without asking the owner’s permission.
•
Do not attempt to pet a dog that is tied or behind a fence.
•
If a strange dog approaches you, do not run, stand still and avert your eyes. Do not attempt to make
contact.
•
Report loose dogs to your city’s animal by-law enforcement team.
•
Do not leave your child alone with a dog, no matter how well you know the animal.

My heavy heart today was in part for this poor gal, almost 15 years old, came in with another black buddy of hers also the same age. Must be such a shock after having a home for so long to end up in a strange place.....we need someone with a big heart to come along and take them home.......a guy came in a while ago and adopted 2 13-year-olds so there is hope, but it will probably take a while............

I was able to weed and turn over my front garden tonight, but I haven't been able to get to my vegetable garden yet - and I certainly haven't had a chance to plant anything at home yet.... I planted some flowers up north last week-end, but I held off on planting the veggies.... I'm thinking now that this was a good call....
