ExpiredDO NOT EAT AT EAST SIDE MARIO'S if you live in NW Ontario. My hubby recently quit because of sooooooo many disgusting things going on in the kitchen. They had the sewer back up on the line and there was feces, urine and toilet paper all over the floor.....They continued to serve customers for 3 days while the cooks were walking around in sewer water. The whole kitchen was flooded like this and management refused to close. Not only that but the cooks were not sanitizing after preparing chicken parmesans. The cooks didn't even wash their hands and my husband was constantly finding rotten food everywhere or seeing people handling raw chicken and not washing hands.
I just wanted to warn everyone. This doesn't apply to other East Side Mario's except the NW Ontario one.
I heard the other East Side Mario's are fantastic but ours here is disgusting and my husband did not go to school for so long to peddle garbage.
Here is a copy of the letter from East Side Head office since people think I'm lying. See what I get for helping
Hello Kristen and Chris,
Thank you for taking the time to let us know some of the issues happening in the Thunder bay restaurant.
I have been in contact with the management team in the restaurant and I am investigating the issues you have mentioned. The restaurant did inform me and forwarded me the resignation letter from Chris.
I just wanted to thank you for taking the time, even though you do not work there anymore and rest assured I will investigate further into the issues you have listed. I apologize for the tardiness of my reply. I did receive a voice mail from Kristen but the return phone number was not clear, I received your email address from our Guest concern representative, so I thought I would drop you a quick note to let you know that we are working on the issues at hand.
Thanks again for bringing these issues to our notice.

He should report them to the public health commission or whatever deals with restaurant health and safety, this stuff should not keep happening.
You'd be surprised what kind of gross sh*t goes on in restaurants, I've tried to minimize my going out to eat this year. It's bad for you and the conditions aren't great a lot of the time.

We contacted head office and they are investigating as well as the health unit. My husband worked in the restaurant business for 20 years and has never seen this kind of thing in all his years....

Oh, that is just too sad.
My husband does electrical work for a property management company - so he tells us all the time where to and where not to eat... (of course he doesn't go to all the eateries in the city, but a heads-up helps). Interesting, my teen son ended up going on an emergency call with him Saturday, and said that everyone should go to this one 'truck-stop' style restaurant because he said in the back, as well as in the kitchen, everything was spotlessly clean - and he was so impressed.

Yeah, my husband used to work at an eastside's and he said it was pretty dirty, he worked for about two weeks, before he had enough and quit...he won't eat at them.

From experience, whenever I go out to eat, the first thing I go take a look at is their washroom. If they can keep it spotless and well supplied, I'd probably stay. Then I try to take a peek in their kitchen.

Ew. Restaurants scare me for this very reason. Thanks for speaking out.

Thank you for letting us know. It is disgusting how some people keep their restaurants....I think if we were able to know the state of all of these different restaurants, we'd all be eating out a lot less. I watch that Kitchen Nightmares show and wow....it just disgusts me so much. I am surprised some of these places haven't been sued for people dying from eating there. The worst part is that it is not that difficult to run a restaurant properly....most of it is just common sense.

It wasn't Thunder Bay - it was Sudbury. (Unless there is another instance in Thunder Bay now, odd.)
There was an email being passed around about it and even a story published in the local paper...and now there is another clarifying.
And it was a false accusation by the way.
Here's a link to the actual story on Facebook - you might need to log in to see.

Speaking out and giving warnings like this before you are "certain" can be really damaging to the company, so think before speaking. (not saying this to anyone in particular so please don't get offended - this specific business couple lost out on alot, for no good reason.)Last edited by parisprincess; Thu, Jan 22nd, 2009 at 12:27 PM. Reason: I am from Sudbury - friends told me about this
