Ivan Kurash died from gunshot wounds in Hirske Hospital, Popasna Raion on May 15, 2018. He was hit in the lungs by a sniper bullet during enemy shelling and gunfire near Zolote and Troyitske, Luhansk Oblast.
Ivan was born in 1985 in Lytvyniv, Ternopil Oblast. He served as senior soldier in the 14th Separate Mechanized Brigade.

May 18 - Deportation of the Crimean Tatars Memorial Day


In May 1944, nearly 238,500 Crimean Tatars were deported from the Crimean Peninsula as ordered by Soviet leader Joseph Stalin.

The lack of accommodation and food, harsh climatic conditions and the rapid spread of diseases had a heavy demographic impact during the first years of their exile. According to surveys conducted by Crimean Tatar activists, more than 109,956 (46.2%) Crimean Tatars of the 238,500 deportees died of starvation and disease between July 1, 1944 and January 1, 1947.

Today, repression, persecution, kidnappings, and disappearances continue in Russian-occupied Crimea.

Today in the occupied Crimea in the settlement Büyük Onlar (Oktyabrske) a prayer service was held in memory of the victims of 1944 deportation of the Crimean Tatar people. Reportedly, mourning services were held in other settlements of the Crimea as well.
