Benefit Type - Maternity/Parental (Shouldn't it be Sick or illness)
Summary:
Wife - 8+months pregnant (Due on April 8)
Maternity Sick Leave Work - Feb 17
Applied for Sick Leave at Service Canada - Feb 17
Report Covering Period:
Feb 23 - 29 = $0
March 1 - 7 - $XXX.XX
March 8 - 14 - $XXX.XX
Just want to confirm:
Is it normal for Benefit Type - Maternity/Parental?
What happened to Feb 23 - 29 payment?

maybe she's not eligible for EI sickness benefit?
what date did she give her employer as the start of her mat. leave? usually that's the date the government use
depending on her employer and the type of employment (casual vs full time vs part time) and employer benefit packages, she may be eligible for paid sick leave from her employer which is at 100% vs EI sickness benefit but i'm sure you guys already explored that option then decided to go with EI sickness benefit.
i told my employer the start date of my mat leave and the HR department automatically update the government, not sure if there was a wait time etc. before my first payment. I was not able to log into my service canada account at this time probably due to high traffic (people applying for EI due to covid19 etc.) to confirm.Last edited by Purdee; Wed, Mar 25th, 2020 at 02:31 PM.

- she worked full time
- since her mat leave was early in the year - she hasn't accumulated enough sick leave
- we were told (Service Canada Office) to hold on to Medical document till it was asked
- it is harder to call now to clarify everything!
- is it still possible to change from Maternity to Sick?
- and start Maternity when the baby is actually out?

All of this depends on the documents provided to Service Canada.
If she is looking to take sick leave prior to Mat Leave, a note must be handed in to her employer and correct forms would need to be filled out.
With this being said, not sure if she is already getting Mat leave it can be changed now. I worked with 2 people who ended up on sick leave prior to mat leave and it was all based on doctor notes and how forms by the employer will filled out. They had to go on sick leave and then transfer to Mat leave.2022 is going to be my year, the year I find organization in my life and the year I focus on myself,

The first week is the waiting period, which is like the deductible. You do not get paid for that week unless your employer paid you sick leave prior to you leaving work. Did your wife have any earnings the week of Feb 16 to Feb 22? Based on what you are explaining there was no report for this week meaning they started the claim on Feb 23.
Did your wife's employer pay her sick days prior to leaving her job?
The reason she got maternity benefits instead of sickness benefits is because she was within 12 weeks of the baby's due date. The following is a quote from the Digest of Entitlement Priniciples used by Service Canada and available to the public.
12.2.4 Period during which maternity benefits are payable
The legislationFootnote11 has set the specific time frame under the EI program, within which maternity benefits may be paid to a person. This period:
begins the earlier of:
twelve weeks before the week in which her confinement is expected, and
the week in which her confinement occurs; and
ends 17 weeks after the later of:
the week in which her confinement is expected, and
the week in which her confinement occurs.
