I cannot wait for the time change to come!
Late September and all of October are terrible days for me and getting the kids off to school. I am a heavy sleeper and with having my alarm going off at 6:15, 6:30, 6:45, 7:00 and 7:15 and just whacking the snooze button each time because it is still dark out and then eventually rolling out of bed and missing making sure the kids are up and ready for their 7:50 bus makes for way too many missed days of school.
GRRRRR!!!

Today's morning headline on Breakfast Television Toronto stated that Ontario MPPs have passed DST legislation but it will only take effect if Quebec and New York legislatures also pass DST legislation.
Not a fine move as time is a provincial responsibility and this move is clearly business-based not an Ontario way thing.

Let's see if Quebec and New York are even discussing this issue:
Found a 2020 article that the QC premier is looking at the DST issue-

Found a 2017 article about the US issue with DST between states:

Two and a half months to go until the next Daylight Savings Time switch.
Meanwhile, I'll enjoy the fact that Winter Solstice just passed, so each day has a little more light!2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

About three weeks' time until the time change occurs again in most parts of Canada.
I'll see if I can find EU articles about which countries have opted for standard time *winter* or daylight time *summer* year-round. They are to make those choices this winter.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

The European Union countries have not actually settled the time debate. Still going in 2021:

North America gets a two-week head start on DST compared to Europe. I miss the April start of DST clock change and Oct fallback time change that North America used to follow.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

Wiley's cartoon about changing clocks and Stonehenge generates a few chuckles:

@bhlombardy Thanks for the smiles. This week is always the hardest with the clocks changed an hour ahead.

Think the adjustment to DST is done. First week is always an experience of slight disorientation and constant time checks--is it really # o'clock?

UK does not switch until this weekend. Always screws up my telly watching! Will be happy when the 5 hour difference is back in play!

Here we go again... another time change has passed... BUT WAIT! Is there "daylight" at the end of this tunnel?
Just today, the US Senate has unanimously agreed to make Daylight Savings time permanent!
https://www.cnn.com/2022/03/15/polit...ent/index.html
According to the bill (that needs House approval, but c'mon...) it would mean that Spring of 2023 will be the last time clocks would change, and come November 2023 there would be no more changes.
Now, this is a US initiative, but Canada would pretty much have to comply. Our time zones are synchronous with theirs (aside from Atlantic and Newfoundland) but for the sake of trade and commerce it would only make sense that these time zones remain operating synchronously with our neighbours to the south.
I'm taking this as a big win for this movement.

I thought states individually can decide which time standard they use. If the US senate can make this change apply nationwide, then ON and QC governments will follow suit as soon as NY state adopts DST because those two legislatures passed bills in 2021 to follow NY when that US state ever decides to go to DST.
It would have been nice to know if ON residents could have a referendum question added to this June's ON election ballot to ask the people if they want DST year-round. I want Std Time.Last edited by Ciel21; Wed, Mar 16th, 2022 at 07:50 PM.

Sunday is clock change time for most of us in Canada. If you have lots of gadgets that need manual changing, start a list or start updating your car/vehicle clocks first. Most cellphones and computers will auto-adjust to the correct time.
