I thought it was illegal to have expiring gift cards in canada? or is that only in BC?

It is illegal in Canada yes but these cards are coming from the US so they might have different regulations. I would be sure and contact them first.
I know the Starbucks cards come in US currency so $5 USD might need a couple drop drigs of coffee for the Cdns

(does the GC cover shipping as well or just the item i.e if the book costs 10.00$ and the GC is 20.00$ the extra goes for shipping or could I use it on another orders).

yes, you can use the GC $ to cover the shipping cost.
The extra money you don't use stays on you amazon account. It will be used when you make another order on the site.

the GC's cover shipping cause thats how I do it since I dont have a CC I have to have the full amount covered to get something

WOW!! I won 10 again, that is twice this week!!! I am 7 bucks away from my "wanted" prize

I am ordering the Disney.com giftcard to use when we go in Sept (I preorder online from the outlet, get it sent to the Hotel for free and save a bundle on souveniers - oh yeah, I am a Smart Canuck after all!!)

Anyway, I was wondering what the expiration dates are like on some of these gift cards? Can someone give me an idea? I would not be using the card for 6 to 7 months and do not want it to expire before I use it.
