Thread: Dogs running loose on walking path
-

I don't hate dogs but they should be on a leash when on a pedestrian walking path. If the dog was in a dog park - go for it!
Some owners think its ok to let them run around and explain the dog is ok, don't worry. But then the dog is running up to people and some trying to jump on them. This thread is currently associated with: N/A

I agree with you.I'm nervous of big dogs even though my family did have a few small to medium dogs.We kept our dogs on leashes even on the off leash park.My parents were worried about them getting lost or getting attacked by another dog.

Best is when you see a poop bag with poop dumped some where. Why bother putting it in a bag then?!?!

Totally agree @2shopmom ! I have been attacked several times by dogs running loose, 1x Miniature shelties, 1x Dalmation and 1x German Shepard who jumped over his 4 foot fence to get at me and bite me. I cross the street when I see any dogs now.

Same issue occurs on the radial line in the main part of town-dog owners think to treat area as personal park but there are play/rec areas off the path and woe befall the unaware adult or child targetted by a pooch! Hence the popularity of cellphone recordings/social media justice. Ancaster has one legal dog park but not everyone goes there because you know, you have to drive to it unless you live nearby.

i know the feeling as the owner of a small dog (12lbs) he gets very defensive when other dogs run up to him very barky and pulling, i can correct the behavior some if we are walking along but it doesn't work if the off leash dog follows us and gets up in his face... i had to give up walking the track because people have turned it into an unofficial off leash dog park and it's impossible to do a single lap without being stalked by dogs (and their owners not calling them off)
When life hands you Edward Cullen...throw him back and demand Eric Northman....

Dogs are going to be dogs. Owners need to be owners and keep dogs in line.

Forgot to post a local story-a German Shepherd broke his leash to take a women's leg into its mouth (she has scars/stitches now). Owner has been charged (but woman's partner had to do the work to ID owner before various agencies would act on the incident report.
Caution: article shows picture of injuries to her leg and there's blood.

They should be on leash for their own good.
I saw my neighbour's puppy ran over by a car when she was just letting him out to pee on the front lawn without leash. I think the puppy saw my dog and wanted to run across the street to say hi. Unfortunately, some very rude landscapers were working on our street for weeks and they parked their vans in such a way that it was hard even for humans to see traffic coming. Just perfect storm for disaster.
It was very traumatic for me. The white fur was tainted in red blood, totally pancaked. The puppy scream haunts me... I cried for a few days. I feel bad that it might be because I just came out of the house that moment. Had I come out just a minute later, it wouldn't have happened.
But thank god, the puppy survived. Freaking miracle.
We don't let our dogs off leash outside the house.Last edited by EvilTofu; Tue, Aug 16th, 2022 at 10:50 AM.
