Thread: Pay it forward.....

Over the past couple of weeks I have REALLY noticed how rare it is for people to actually take the time to give thanks and show appreciation for good service. Many people will gripe, at the drop of a hat, about something that doesn't go right, but very few will put the effort into letting others know when someone has done a great job. Soooo, I decided to do something about this and I emailed LD's customer service people and told them what a wonderful job their staff was doing. I TRULY enjoy spending my money there and know that I will always get good service.
Well, I just got an email back and they were thrilled to hear from me! They told me that my "comments are appreciated and will be forwarded on to the Store Manager and appropriate Head Office personnel. In addition a commendation will be sent to the store to commend them on the service they provided to you."
How great is that! I really feel good now. I hope others will read this and do something to appreciate others that have made this world a better place to live in. I also hope my children lead by my example.
Have a great day everyone.

That is so true. I actually wrote Superstore about 2 weeks ago regarding a super CS lady. She was wonderful! I ususally have such awful experiences at SS but she changed that. I made sure to tell them I wanted this information forwarded on to her and her manager to make sure she knew how impressed I was.
I think eveyone should do this at least once. We all have at least 1 good experience, don't we?

I did it for the flight crew on my Westjet flights last year. Being a recovering fearful flyer they were *more* than kind and understanding and treated me with courtesy and respect. The pilot actually came off both planes to greet me in person and put my mind at ease in the waiting area! (How cool is that!!) Hubby asked at the gate if I could meet the pilot and that's what they did for me.
I wrote a detailed letter, naming names and flights, and asked them to please pass it on to their "managers" so they could see what a great job their staff was doing.
They emailed me back and said they would pass it along, and thanked me for writing.
Gee it's been a whole year since I did that, better start looking for new opportunities! Thanks for the reminder!!

Great post!
A lot of companies reward their employees with gift cards/bonuses etc if they get specific feedback about a great experience (I used to be a Store Manager in retail and my company LOVED to get letters from customers).
But even besides monetary compensation, its a really amazing feeling as a retail worker to know that you're appreciated when you do a great job.

I work as a product demonstrator. Thus I get to see which stores give great customer service and which don't. I have no problem emailing a company and giving them a good report. Usually I ask that a copy of the commendation be placed in their permanent personnel file, if I give specific mention of a person.

I did this last week too. We went for supper (chinese food) for our daughters 17th birthday. The waitress was exceptional, she was there when we needed her with a big smile, but not too much in our face. I could tell she was quite young and was giving it her all. She brought cake, candles and sang with just one other staff member. This is quite a tough thing to do to sing infront of a full table of adults you don't know and there were only two servers.
I was paying by credit card and told the Manager that our waitress was fabulous and to please tell her. I put an extra large tip on the card and double checked to make sure it was going to go directly to her. He assured me it would.
She earned it.

I wrote MWWH head offcie this past Decemeber to tell them how great a couple of their staff were when they were dealing with a very difficult customer inline in front of me at the check out. Head office replied to me that they were pelase to hear a wonderful comment about their staff and assured me that the staff and store would get something from head office as a reward. Now when I walk in that store I get greated with a big smile and totally get the red carpet treatment.

I love to compliment the cashier right at the moment I am being checked out if they give me good service - I like to see the smile on their face when I tell them how much I appreciate their help. I love to send positive emails to stores that deserve the praise. Customer service is becoming a lost art.
Today I had one teen girl who was checking my groceries - she didn't greet me, no Hello how are you?, she was having a conversation with her coworker and not paying attention to what she was scanning, didn't tell me the total, didn't thank me when I was leaving. :lol I felt like I was interrupting her personal time. She wasn't rude or ignorant - the stuff was correctly scanned and she took my coupons with no problems but I felt like I wasn't even there. I thought the least she could have done was say Thank you. Oh well!

I do this all the time and they do get passed on to the staff. Once I was at Fortinos at check out and there was a girl gushing about how the manager had come over to compliment her because they received a letter about how she went into the back to look for something someone had asked for.
Makes you wonder how bad some service is when you compliment people just for doing what they should be doing, but since my boss makes an effort to say thank you every day when I leave...
