What kinds are you buying though?

Here in Ontario they vary in price greatly.

You can get 4l of Neilson 2% for 3.97
    Dairy Oh 2% is 6.89
Organic goes as high as 8

I buy the Dairy Oh so I'm just under 7$ myself

I don't think that whole milk plus 25% water = 2% milk. I could be wrong, but I don't think lower fat milk simply has more water in it, just more fat is removed. I suspect that you're ending up with has less nutrients in it.

Besides, whole milk is 4%. Adding 25% water would make 3% wouldn't it?

Hmm, maybe. I'm not really sure! I always thought it was 4%, but it's been so long since I've seen it in my household, maybe I'm wrong!

well adding water just helps with the price and helps with the waste thats why I buy whole milk for I am able to add water cause with 2% you really couldnt add much water to that

It appears that homogenized varies per brand Neilson and Dairy oh is

    Neilson 3.25% Homogenized Milk

    Learn something new everyday!

Based upon this I would assume that homogenized can vary from 3-4% dependant upon brand.

There's a convenience store on the corner of Jubilee and Preston St. (Halifax) that sells 4L jugs of Farmer's and Baxter for $5.99, which beats Superstore by $2.00

WOW!!! 7 bucks a bag??!!! That is ridiculous.

I just paid 2.00 (TWO DOLLARS) for a 4 litre bag last night at Zellers because the expiry date is next Tuesday.

Crazy the difference in prices around Canada.

Wow, those prices are high! I didn't realize that milk prices could vary so much.

I miss Farmers and Scotsburn Neilson milk is GROSS!!!!!!!! Every time I go back home to Halifax I drink my full of chocolate milk since the Neilson brand is so gross. Dairy Oh isn't much better either. Call me crazy but I find the milk here tastes and smells like cow....it's as if the process they put the milk through doesn't get rid of some sort of smell or taste. First time I drank milk in ON it came back up. I can even taste the gross milk taste in my coffee/tea etc. as it's so strong to me. So I'll gladly spend the $7 for good tasting milk vs the $1/L here for pretty gross milk. I miss Halifax and it's milk

Sobey's in Bayers Lake typically has 4L, any brand, for around $5.50.
I live in Dartmouth and get 4L at Zellers for $6.29.
You could always go with powdered, lol...

    I'm in NL too--St. John's.

I find the best deal is to buy milk at SDM-usually the cheapest around. And if you buy gift cards and use them to pay, you get double the points. Unfortunately, milk is always excluded from 20X the points, but you can get it when you redeem points.

Also, when they have the milk in the SDM flyer, you can price-match it at Zellers--they have small fridges in the front of the Stavanger & Topsail Road stores. Then if you have the SPC you get a whopping 10% off. But at least that's something!

    denise

And I know prices are govet-regulated here too, but it's ridiculous! I mean we have dairy farms all in & around town-why the heck is it so expensive?! 2L pop is often >$1, but 2L milk is close to $4! Make no wonder people make so many bad choices!

Just pleasantly surprised. I know shoppers puts the baxters on special occasionally as well for $3.05 lately for a 2 litre carton.
Milk over the river (Niagara Falls NY) is sure a good deal for us then! It's usually $1.99 for a gallon. Even with the difference in our dollar it's still alot better than our $3.97 special prices we usually get here for 3 bag-4 litres at SDM and such. (3.785 liters=1 US gallon) US dollar is about 20 cents to buy right now. It changes a few times a day though. It's been in the 25 cent region for a bit now.
