Going to put a small beef roast in the oven and slow cook it. I will make potatoes and veggies to have with it later.
I've got a big old pot of homemade roasted garlic and tomato soup simmering away......Mmmmmmmm I'm serving it with grilled cheese tonight!
Potato soup from the crockpot. I wanted bacon to put on it, but all the regular bacon was at least $6 a package at Sobeys yesterday, so I bought turkey bacon for the first time. My expectations weren't high, but it wasn't half bad! It looks funny, but was crisp, and tasted fine crumbled in the soup.
^ the price of pork bacon is ridiculous. You'd swear the stuff was laced with gold, eh?
I tried the chicken bacon awhile back and enjoyed it. DH wasn't a fan though. But it was cheaper and healthier for us. How can you argue with that??
Well, in the spirit of avoiding cooking (LOL), we decided to have breakfast for supper tonight since DH isn't home and it's what us girls do when he's not home for supper. Our little rebellion.
So, we had pancakes and pork bacon at the no frills special price of whatever it was a couple weeks ago. And the girls made supper because both are trying to learn some basic cooking skills. So i got to sit back and direct it all.
I should do this more often!! ;)
Wow, I've been reading here and on other threads about SCers and prime rib - must have been a great sale somewhere. I've only ever had it once at a buffet - the price is always through the roof at a grocery store, not something I would ever think of buying.
(actually right now, I'd appreciate ANY beef at a decent price!)
For supper, I had a big salad of every veggie in the fridge. Might have something else later.
Husband will have leftover chili/pasta and salad - and something more if he needs it.
stir fry haddock and broccoli with rice
leftovers tonight. Might make hot roast beef sandwiches.
I had a craving for hot dogs last night but i didnt have any weiners. I found a package of cocktail weiners and thats what i used! lol
did up 2 deep dish meat pies late last night, have the chili on the go now, and perhaps I will invent something to turn those skinless, boneless chicken breasts into later. The veggies are easy peasy to take from the freezer ( flash cooked carrots and whole beets done a few weeks back )
Hotdogs tonight. Soup if husband wants.
I agree that prime rib is expensive-I do buy it as an occasional treat to cook for our family- but in lieu of treating ourselves to a takeout meal(we rarely do sit down restaurant meals unless travelling). About the same price for our family and with leftovers it is a delish splurge.
Leftover potato soup tonight, there's enough for someone to have for lunch tomorrow (probably me since I'm more a soup person).
I must say, I have NEVER purchased a prime rib roast. The grocery store is crazy expensive for it, and I'm not confident in the quality. Costco is a place I'd more confidence in quality, but even more crazy expensive. I haven't even made a sirloin tip roast since it's gone up in recent months. I'd love a roast beef, one of the few things I'd make gravy with. :)
back to the land of real food- homemade beef stew with dumplings
Having some fried fish with baked potatoes and sour cream.
