The sentencing of MT

I've got this knot in my tummy right now. MT, the "mastermind" behind the murder of Stephanie Rengel was just sentenced to "life" in prison with parole possible in 7 years. 7 years??!!! For planning and coercing someone else (a boyfriend from whom she witheld sex until he killed Stephanie) to murder??!!
There's got to be something wrong here. Can someone reassure me, please, that this vile murderer won't see the light of day again outside of prison? I'm so terribly sad for the Stephanie's family.....Anyone?

Sometimes the system is unbelievable.

Here's what's going on here.

A man has been accused along with his wife and son of "allegedly" murdering their 3 oldest daughters and his first wife in what is being labelled "an honor killing". This is still unproven but they were arrested on this basis. Now this is totally unreal, disgusting , vile and something that if true should NEVER be tolersted in our country and they shold be punished to the max and sent back to Afghanistan.

Here's the kicker. The man will be compensated up $200,000 because in Quebec we have a law that states in the no fault insurance game that the loss of a child shall be compensated to the tune of $$$ for each child. The wife is also entitled to this money. So even if it turns out they murdered their children they stand to make the money.

The scariest part is when they have no remorse for what they did. Kelly Ellard is another one I hope never gets out. She is just full of rage and not sorry at all for the life she took

Maybe this will be the landmark case that gets the law changed.....good old-fashioned greed has long been a motive to murder and what's to prevent it from happening again. There will be an avalanche of new residents to Quebec and a tidal wave of "honour killings"

I've never heard of this law in Quebec. The parents will be compensated by the government for losing 3 children, and who's behind the killing,
the parents themselves. Unbeliavable!

These light sentences need to stop. It sickens me that probation is even an option after only 7 years. When did we say as a society that this is equal to the life that has been taken. Oh sure they are on probation till the end of the sentence , but honestly how many times have we heard that these criminals are arrested while on probation. I know several people that have been affect by violent crimes and all the criminals were giving light sentences, IMO. I mean 2 guys that killed my cousin's uncle where out in less then 9 years. When did we as a society give the criminals more power and right then we give the victims and victim's families?

Apparently it's always been there. Obviously it a small compensation compared to the loss of the child but it is basically a "benfit" covered by the no-fault insurance. Now whether it is only in the case of car accident I don't know. I should askl my friend he's a lawyer and he does transport law and permits.

And many times they get out on parole only to kill again.

A little more than 13 years ago a Mississauga real estate agent named Wendy Carroll was lured to one of her listings by two men under the guise that they were interested in the house. They then stabbed her repeatedly to within an inch of her life. They left her for dead, she crawled out into a street where someone saw her, and called 911 and the paramedics got to her basically just in time.

Both men were on parole (they had become buddies in prison), each of them had killed two people already. They are given a second chance by the parole committee (who I guess had been passing a crack pipe around during deliberations), they get out, and this is what they do

The one guy had killed his own two kids, and the other had shot two people. They should never had gotten out in the first place, and both have now been declared Dangerous Offenders just like Paul Bernardo so they likely won't see the light of day again. Wendy Carroll now fights for victims' rights

I remember this case really really freaked me out and stayed with me for a long time.

There is no justice in the world at this point. I've known of people who have tried to protect their families or their businesses when threatened by criminals and yet they are the ones who are punished and the criminals get off 'scott free'. I agree with the Kelly Ellard thing, you see the news clippings of her and she just looks like bad news from the get-go. She hasn't changed in all this time. You'd think someone would have taught her how to behave in front of the media if she wanted to appear remorseful! It's sad...so very sad for the victims and their families.

I really hope they never let this one out. I am glad that the legal process is finally over (no more trials)

Absolutely criminal how our own justice system refuses to protect us. I can only rely on the good-judgement of her first parole board and hope they keep her locked up until she dies in prison. As for that "honour killing" .... NOT IN MY COUNTRY! Again, I can only hope that they get what's coming to them and make them realize that this might be tolerated in a third-world country but not HERE!
I pray parole boards from now on have the good sense God gave them to keep mosters behind bars from now on. Unfortunately....there are no guarantees, are there?
One good sob story, and phhhht! Out they fly! To kill and hurt again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My husband's friend/acquiantance was killed in a car accident a number of years ago. The girl driving the car was drunk. Her coworkers knew she had been drinking (she was drinking at work). The charges were dropped on what I consider a technicality. Something to the effect that the police officers on the scene had no cause to administer a breath test so the breathalyzer and blood test were thrown out of court. End of case. This girl got behind a wheel and killed someone and gets to walk free like you and me with absolutely ZERO reprecussions. That I find worse then lax sentences.

At the same time, one can argue the justice system isn't perfect. How many people have been proven innocent after conviction? Double edged sword for sure.
