You were NEVER allowed to buy gift cards as your required purchase. Your purchase is allowed to include gift cards, but you must meet the required $-amount not including the PURCHASE of gift cards. Gift cards are treated like cash. You can pay for things with them, but no one's giving you a bonus for buying cash. This is in the FAQ, even before being updated.

but didnt someone say before that you won't get your points if its an X whatever event if you use the giftcard to buy 25 dollar worth of stuff anymore

basically what im trying to say is can i buy a gift card worth about 30 dollars and still get the points

What?? Who said that where? I doubt the legality (and truth) of that. A gift card is like currency.
