I notice a few posts mentioning there are not enough volunteers for group leader but I want to point out that I've participated in the last 4 events and have volunteered to be a group leader (if required) for the last 3 events. I have never been assigned a group. I volunteer because I benefit from the event and it doesn't seem right not to offer assistance if it is required. My assumption has always been that the help was not required.?

As for updates, I can say now that I don't see the need. But the first time I participated in the event I had a lot of reservations about disclosing my optimum number to a complete stranger over the internet (highly unlike me to do so but I love Optimum so I took a leap of faith). Hearing nothing at all until well after the points had been distributed was pretty nerve racking. I had my doubts. It all turned out fine in the end. My remaining events have all gone smoothly, but I can see for those learning the ropes it may be a bit confusing.

As a leader for the second time, and this time I have 2 groups as there wasn't enough volunteers for group leaders, it is very difficult to keep updating this thread. The leaders have to do alot, and we actually spend alot of time doing this, and our only extra reward is that we get an extra 5000 points. I could easily get that, and more, by referring friends and family, and not doing it here. However, I do enjoy this website, and want to help out. Cyanne is amazing, keeping everything all straight, and I wouldn't do her job for anything! Here's a little info for those of you who haven't been leaders before about what the 'job' entails. The leaders must email everyone, send them the invitation, send emails to people that haven't sent a confirmation email yet, then send a reminder to everyone to shop. Then we must email those people on the last day of the shop to make sure that they remember to shop, and email the people that don't get back to us. Then when the points are rewarded, we must transfer them to everyone's account. Then I do something that maybe other leaders might not do, and I email everyone to tell them that their points were transferred, and make sure that they received them and to email me back. Then I usually have to follow up on a few to see if they got their points, as everyone doesn't reply to your emails. So, there's alot of work for the 5000 bonus points, or approx $7 worth of extra points. And I agree with others who say that it doesn't really matter how many people said that they shopped, because it all comes down to if the correct amount of points are awarded. I agree with Rachel1496 who says that if the correct points aren't awarded, that people will get angry, so why not just wait until you get your points. So, in other words, if you don't like the fact the your leader isn't updating the thread regularly, maybe you should consider what all has to go into the position, and put your name down as a group leader next time around, and then maybe you can keep your group updated regularly and see how much work it really is. That's probably why there weren't enough leaders this time around, as people who have done it before, know how much work it is, and they just don't want to bother. Hope that no one is offended by my posting, but what I said is true, and I've been here long enough to know what's going on.

Well you as a team leader might be one of the better ones!
I didn't get a reminder email to shop, I didn't get any personal email updates I had to go through the list to find them. and when i did email my leader he wasn't so happy to hear from me.. so maybe that was what upset me to begin with! ..

psipsi thank you for writing this, so you understand. I also was like I have to give my number to a complete stranger. who I don't know.. I also have never done this before and I am sure if I round up people I know I could of had enough people to do it too but thought since everyone online was doing it why not. I have been here a short time already been referring people like crazy.. I am doing my best on this site.. to help make the word get out. . I would of been a group leader and did the updates regularly because I guess i like knowing whats going on and figure so would others.

anyhow.. whatever! its done and over with I'll see my points I guess whenever that happens.

Anyhow! . Im not replying anymore to all you guys who wanna go on about it. I expect I'll see my points at the end of this event! . or at least be told if I am not going to get them because someone didn't shop or such!

Hopefully by next year I can be a leader.. and this way I'll be on top of it all and get all the thank-you's I deserve and will get because I'd be a super as a leader and be updating everyone personally with info. anyhow.. I never said anything bad about cyanne either! .. I dont' know her to say anything about her. I'm sure she does a great job here and run's this event well!

Oh geez!!! THIS is why I take the week between the event and the points being awarded off!!!

Are we seriously doing this AGAIN???

It really doesn't make a difference if you know how many people said they shopped before points are awarded. You'll find out in a week. Can you not wait a week???

Updating you is NOT part of a group leader's job description. It's supposed to be an easy job. I say it's an easy job. Why are you making me a liar?!?

Updating you is a whole extra job that serves no purpose. In a week, if everybody in a group shoppedl, we'll know everybody shopped without asking. If somebody didn't, at that point we'll look through our confirmations to see who didn't send one, or better yet, who admitted to not shopping. That's it.

I never promised to update you. If you're not satisfied with that, don't join! You're the ones benefitting from this--not us! No one else is getting any more points if there are 30 groups instead of 20.

Dammit! I TOLD the whole group not to bother MrDisco!!! I was administering that group for MrDisco by p r o x y!!! That means FOR HIM. MrDisco wasn't SUPPOSED TO do ANYTHING!!!

Next time, if there is a next time, I'll have to label the p r o x y groups under my name. You can come to me for updates about who shopped, and I won't give them.

Every event this same exact thing seems to happen. I am not amused. I've threatened to do it before, but next time, I think I will. I'm going to ask the group leaders to please NOT provide updates about who shopped, even if they have the time and inclination. I regret depriving Baggypants of the fun, but it isn't coming across as a bonus, but rather providing unrealistic expectations. A 97% participation rate and us providing ALL participants with the full 4545 group points last time was evidently not enough to instill confidence.

Your leader is doing the best they can to gather info and keep their records straight...We know you are pumped about this event but have confidence they are on top of it or they wouldn't be a leader...it will all work out!!

Word! I feel sorry for the group leaders who are being pestered... even if one or two people in your group didn't shop, you're out a few hundred points, at most! Is it really worth all this drama?

Hello: Reality Check: If you don't like the way the game is being played. DON'T PLAY. Option, sign up on your own. earn 5000 points or sign up with SC and earn 5000 points and maybe more... Your choice, this is a non issue. I have been in a group when leader did not communicate much and with a group leader who did comunicate alot. Really, it was a warm and fuzzy feeling with the communication but I did not sign up for warm and fuzzy, I signed up for EXTRA Points.

If you have a valid complaint you should take it up with Cyanne. I beleive and try to live by the rule IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING NICE TO SAY, DON'T

All group leaders did the job they were required to do, or Cyanne would have dealt with it.

Thank you to all group leader who took the time out of their live to do the job, so I and 299 other people could get extra SDM point. A special THANK YOU to Cyanne who has done a fantastic job.

Well said Cyanne! And to everyone that is still complaining, STOP IT, or we will all lose out if Cyanne decides not to do this again. As I really don't feel that anyone wants to do her job! Just wait a week or so, and when you're points are transferred, you'll find out if everyone shopped. And yes, some people say that they shopped, and they either didn't, or didn't follow the rules (like they didn't spend the required amount), so sometimes it doesn't matter if everyone says that they shopped or not, because it all comes down to point distribution day! Then you'll find out.

Just check the 3rd post in the 20th. I post the results there. If everyone in the group shopped distribution should be quick and easy. If not, we may need some time to identify the non-shopper (if the nonshopper hasn't come forward we may want to see receipts).

Wow, there's a lot going on in this thread. Personally I haven't bothered to look here because I figured we would all just wait and see our points when they arrived.

I can only imagine how hard it is to be a group leader and I'm very thankful that all the group leaders and especially Cyanne has done this for us. I know I really appreciate the opportunity to get more points.

I get that as a newbie you get a little anxious, I know because I am one! But its better to wait until you know for sure what points you will get then to think you're getting one amount and then get another because someone fibbed about shopping etc.

Again I'd like to say THANK YOU to all the group leaders & Cyanne!

Uh yeah that's not quite true. You publicly complained in this thread about not getting updates, then you PM asking for updates and all I told you was to relax. Here' I've got nothing to hide..here are my exact response to you via PM:

"chill out. all things will work out eventually."

my next response to your second PM was:

    "You definitely need to relax."

And why did I say that? Because of:
    http://forum.smartcanucks.ca/1157180-post661.html
    followed by this:
    http://forum.smartcanucks.ca/1157192-post663.html

And also your second PM to me which was:
"is it possible to email those people and see if they are shopping tomorrow!? PLEASE! i want those extra points!"

And that was only after the first day ended! I mean come on...take a chill pill.

The worse thing about this is it makes Cyanne look bad when she puts an incredible effort into organizing this. So I publicly apologize to Cyanne for any distress this may have caused. :'( Because certain people were getting antsy (1 day after the event started!) I thought I would post some initial results. I see now that I shouldn't have bothered and if Cyanne accepts me for the next SDM event I will not do so again.
