  1. But doing all those potatoes & beets is a daunting task. Better you than me.

Me, I'm ok I guess; lots of appts & hospital visits, but had to cancel most 'cause Jake's been so sick. He's been ill for 3 weeks now, spent 2 days in hospital, still on a # of meds, and still there's something else wrong. I'm taking him back this morning. He was so weak yesterday, he couldn't even walk up the stairs.

    I'm soooo worried about him.

Anyway, enjoy the day, & don't do too much & get run down. Gotta get going.
  2. Not so much ambitious, as I had nowhere to put the potatoes that made up a big part of the dinners (either I lost counterspace or if I left the bag on the floor, I kept tripping over the darn thing). Now, if I can only finish the cleaning/organizing of the laundry closet, then I would have room to play tag with the brats.

How are you these days? Is Jake keeping you busy?
  3. I THINK it was something he ate. Everything goes into that mouth, but in the past if his tummy was upset, it'd only last a day. Usually, he eats about 2 cups of puppy kibble daily; the last 3 days, less than 1/2 c daily. So we'll see.

No couldn't go out. Had planned to, but the spasms kept me couch / bed ridden. This morning was horrible out, but it cleared & warmed up nicely this afternoon. Was able to open all my windows. I know, it's funny how different the weather can be from Miss., Toronto, N.Y., Scar., to Whitby. You'd think we lived in different countries.

I hope afternoons like today last for awhile, I'd like to get a chance to take them in. Probably can't till Thurs tho. Drs on Mon, Wed, & Fri, dog sitting Mon afternoon & eve, hair & puppy training Tues., so, busy week.

Hope you & Lily can get out to spy, I mean visit, with all your neighbours tomorrow. Take care of yourself.
  4. Sorry about the aches, so not fun. Did Jake eat something he shouldn`t have? Or is it just his way?

A friend had a poodle who threw up every single morning, like clockwork. Turns out she had to have small meals every couple of hours (empty stomach caused issues). Hopefully that`s not the case with Jake (it actually wasn`t too bad with my friend`s pup, it just took some getting used to).

Did you have a chance to go out & enjoy the sunshine (or did you even see the sun? - sometimes I`ll talk to my Mom in Scarboro where it`s sunny & we`re dealing with a hurricane).
  5. Cook, what's that? Haven't done much of that for a long time, so better you than me. Years ago I use to pickle beets, make jams, stew tomatoes ......., but that was in a different life. lol
I had a headache today also. It's eased up, but not all gone.
It hasn't been a good week for either of us. Jake's been off his food & throwing up for 3 days now. Starting to get a little concerned.
And me, well my back's been pretty painful all week, but tomorrow's another day, & nothing compared to what you've been going through.
    Good luck with your cooking.
  6. Nasty here too, this morning, as well as a wind that wouldn`t stop. Had a headache so did nothing this morning. It cleared up after lunch (weather and ouchie), so I went for a walk and hauled home 10lbs of potatoes. Between the potatoes and the beets, I might actually have to learn how to cook.

Hope you & Jake are well.
  7. OK, OK, I'll share the cute doctors with ya. Only 1 sorta cute one now, the ultra serious one. Haven't seen the doctor that did the tx surgery, now he was yummy. When I was already sedated & on my way to the OR, my bff was with me & the last thing I remember her saying to me was "Hey, at least you're really lucky, the surgeon is really really cute!" lol & he was movie-star handsome & had a great personality. I do miss him.

We'll see what today's bloodwork shows. Here's hoping it says things are normal, that will get them all confused.
  8. When I read your posts, I do so with fingers crossed that nothing else will go wrong. Obviously that's not working, so I'll have to try something else.
You know, you can't have all the doctors to yourself, you have to share, so no more problems, ok !! I think that you've had more than your fair share.
Surprisingly, I'm doing pretty well. All my tests came back normal. So except that my back is really screwed up, I'm in perfect health.

Jake was great last night. At 1st he thought I was playing, but I think he soon understood that something was wrong. Thankfully, I know c.p.r., etc., not that it did any good this time, but it has in the past. I'm just thankful I could @ least try.

    PLEASE take care of yourself.
  9. Well, trust me to have a wonky body that drives the doctors to drink. Somehow I don't think they'd be too happy if I brought in a bottle of rum for us all to share in the morning.

So sorry to hear about your neighbour, that's horrible. Wonderful of you to help, not everyone would. And what a wonderful Jake to behave himself.

Hope you're feeling well these days. Take care of yourself (well, tell Jake to do so).
  10. Oh, no, I don`t actually enjoy cooking. Baking, especially for dogs who are grateful, is a whole other story. I`m a lousy cook, I`ve perfected maybe 3 dishes. Idiot proof things, that never taste as good as my Mom`s (even if I`m standing right beside her, doing exactly what she says, it doesn`t turn out ). It`s funny cause my Mom had no clue how to cook until she got married (her thing was cleaning, she was happy to leave the cooking up to her Mom and younger sister).

Then there are the really simple things that make a tasty lunch if you`re short on time (& desperate). Spread cream cheese on a soft tortilla shell, roll up & microwave for 15 seconds, just until the cream cheese gets soft. Yummy & idiot-proof (says the idiot who put it in for 1 minute and had to clean cream cheese from every little nook and cranny in the microwave ).
  11. Well, that's good. Nice you have a mom who'll that for you. Smart, cooking a few meals in advance. Wish I liked cooking - I don't.
    Have a great evening.
  12. I learned my lesson when I was on dialysis. On good days, I cook a large meal and put it in single portion storage containers, so I have easy meals. I also have a ton of canned goods that I pick up whenever there`s a sale on. The 3 of us have been known to enjoy peas from a can for lunch (yes, I have a weird cat who LOVES peas...& corn!).

I also have my Mom sending me home with care packages every time I visit (been 2 weeks, so those are now gone).

I hope you`re not overdoing it. Try to spend some time relaxing with Jake.
  13. Jake & I are definitely taking care of each other, physically & emotionally.

I loved reading about that guy stopping to tell you how much seeing you & Lily makes his day. That's so sweet.

Not surprised you feel worn out, more like beaten up. When my back was REALLY bad, I had to use 'Meals on Wheels' because I just couldn't stand to cook. The food's not bad, nutritious, & heats up quickly. Still have some in the freezer for those bad days. You might want to consider giving them a try. I hope ur feeling better now, but if not, I hope you do soon.
  14. It`s been a lousy year (well, 10 months) for sure. I think I`m just so worn out from the 2 emergency surgeries, the 3 trips by ambulance, the stupid simple bug that left me in the isolation ward back in the spring, etc etc. Now I think I`ve figured out why I`ve been feeling off (iron pills got switched, which explains the dark circles under my eyes & being exhausted all the time).

I`d teach my guys to do the cooking for me, but I think they`d only leave me with table scraps.

Give Jake a kiss from us (like you need any incentive ). Tell Jake to take care of you.
  15. Relieved to be back & that he's forgiven me. Appts. virtually every morning. I think between you & I, we could support physicians for life. lol
Sorry about ur allergic reaction to tomatoes. Don't you think you have enough going on to add any more ? Geez, enough already. That's an order.
  16. Oh, poor things (both of you!).

The only pet I had who was that bad was my budgie. I went into hospital when I was 10 (first diagnosed as diabetic) and he refused to eat for 2 days. It wasn`t until my Mom held the phone up to Charlie and he heard my voice that he was calm (he also used to snuggle up beside me on the couch whenever I was under the weather).

Now that all is well, how are you feeling?
  17. No not really. Jake took 3 - 4 days to play, eat ..... @ all. Threw up a lot, but the 2nd week he was ok. The separation was probably good for him, but hard on both of us. Glad I'm back.
  18. I remember the first time I left Lily dog. I`d had her just under a year and she was staying with my parents (& the one true love of her life, my Dad). I missed her like crazy. When I got home I asked if she missed me. `Sort of. After a couple of hours, she looked for you, then went back to playing. The next day, she put her head on your bed & wagged her tail like crazy.` Apparently, once she realized I was gone for a while, she decided she no longer had to behave (my parents let her get away with murder ).

Did you at least have some fun while away?
  19. Not funny. I was SO worried, but all's fine. Whew. I never could have imagined how much I missed him, and that was one of my worries !!!!! But, he still loves me, & I don't think I could ever leave him again. I think I cried every day.
  20. Welcome home! So, are you still in the doghouse? Or has Jake forgiven you?
  21. Thanks. I'm definitely going to try the raspberry beer. Sounds good. I think I'll pass on the lemon tea beer. I can't stand tea.
  22. The raspberry beer is yummy, it's a bit lighter and slightly sweet. They also have lemon tea beer which is nice for summer (just a hint of iced tea in the beer, sounds weird but yummy).

They're my neighbours (they started as a small craft brewery across the street - literally! - then got too big, now they have a pub there and still make specialty brews like pumpkin beer for Halloween).
  23. I'm almost sorry I didn't wait. omg, the house is such a mess !! At least it was warm enough that I got all my lights in & put away. All the boughs & decorations from around the house are gathered up; the tree is half undecorated, all the Christmas lines & dishes are washed, & all the storage boxes are down & ready. Now, I just have to pack everything up & get the tree down. Oh yeh, then, have to clean the house before all the regular stuff goes back.
About 2 more days of work before it's done & I'm already exhausted.
Oh well, I guess it's worth it, or wouldn't have done it in the first place.

I hope you're enjoying the evening. Personally, I'm almost ready for bed.
  24. I have another week until my undecorating begins. I like to wait until after Sir John A's b-day to untrim the tree.
  25. thanks, sounds GREAT !!!
  26. Good to have you back! Now hurry up & feel better so you can come out with us for a night at SA.
  27. I know. But there's too much fun to be had.

    Hope you're doing well.
  28. thanks; don't go down often, usually only for an event, but I'd like 2 extend the same invite to u. Ever in the Whitby area, let me know & come 4 a visit.
  29. You're right, I would. & he'd miss me (he is, after all, my jealous boyfriend ).

Next time you're downtown, come by for a visit.
  30. It might be nice to have a living, breathing soul around, but you'd miss him 2 much.
