We did not use peepee teepees, dishwasher caddy, receiving blankets, swaddle me (depends on your LO), wipes warmer, bottle warmer (just use microwave)
must have: clothes of all ages (they grow up so fast), microwave bottle sanitizer, a lot of bottles, formula,

For the Peepee teepees, it was always too late. When my LO started peeing, I would scramble around searching for the peepee teepee... after finding it and covering he was almost all done and there was a big mess on change pad...

... I agree with not stocking up on a lot of the same thing. Every child is different, and you wouldn't want to have wasted money on medicine they react to, or bottles they hate, blankets they refuse to settle down in, etc. My son loved the swing, swaddling, and most nipples (I breastfed also- this was for bottle-feeding breast milk). I bought all this ahead of time when I was pregnant with my daughter, and she hated all of it. The one thing they both loved was being in the snugli.

I had no idea what to expect when we had our first two weeks ago. I asked a bunch of moms I knew and the consensus was that I needed three things for sure, and the rest can be bought as you see a need or borrowed.
1. Carseat - you need it to take the baby home from the hospital
2. Diapers - obvious reasons
3. Body wash/shampoo - for bathing
Here are some other things we found useful but not truly mandatory:
Change pad
Receiving blankets
Sleepers - the ones with feet attached
Bassinet
Vaseline - kept the diaper rash at bay so far
Socks - to use as scratch mitts
Paper towels - to use for making wipes

Breast pump, with my DD I was like like : nah don't need it. One day I was at my mother's and my boobies got huge, rock hard engorged and I was wimpering in pain. So my mother asked if it happened often and it did.. And she said : Enough ! I know you're being stubborn and think you don't need.. but i'm getting you one NOW. She actually went out, got me a manual AND a electric and it was the best thing EVER. Saved me from so much pain.
No powder as it's no good for baby to breathe in.
You can get the zinc creme at the pharmacy in a big tub rather than buy the tiny overpriced zincofax container.
A good stroller that has lot's of room for bags and other things

I forgot one thing, and you can stockpile it too. Soap! You'll be washing your hands a lot more often with all those diaper changes (sometimes two or three at one time if you're unlucky) and you need lots and lots of soap.

Just remember to make sure that the products you buy with hard plastics are BPA free, soft plastics are phthalate free, and consider organic cotton/bamboo. There's so much toxic crap out there. And often pricier..so just make informed decisions - what will your baby be exposed to the MOST ..then get organic options of those (ie bb blanket).
And the personal care products you use are Clean Care approved (ie does not contain cancer causing agents, ingredients that may tinker with their hormonal system, etc). Actually I don't think they have approved any baby lines yet..
