I had such a horrible shopping experience on Friday at Walmart that I decided to call head office as this is what happened.

    1. Price matching problems as cashier wanted to go just by pictures and not by wording also.
    2. Tax not taken off on free products coupons by either cashier or manager as they didn't know how.
    3. Second manager called didn't even bother showing up to the till.
    4. Cashier on the next till busy rolling her eyeballs at us.
    5. Customer service didn't know the correct tax rate to be able to refund the taxes as apparently there is only one tax for cat food because there is a J on the receipt.
    6. Had to buy a $1.00 bag of candy to prove to her the tax rate on J products is 13%. I wanted to return the candy after that point was proven but couldn't because she said she gave me the receipt which she hadn't. I had to tell her to check her other hand as that was where the receipt was. Candy was refunded.
    7. Refund given in cash rather than on credit card.
    8. 45 minutes later DH and I finally were able to leave the store.

I received a phone call from a manager at the Walmart I was shopping at, explained the whole story again, was told I will be receiving a $100.00 GC for all the problems we went through and I was just hoping to have the cashiers learn how to remove the tax on free items. She apologized profusely and let me know that this will not happen again. Hopefully, there will be some retraining going on.

Also passed on this to me: Walmart flyers will soon starting on Thursday rather than Friday.

That sounds like a headache, similar to experiences that I have had at our local WM. It was a great surprise that they are now giving you a $100 gc. That sounds like a nice apology to me.

Sorry about the experience, but it's great that you have been compensated for your troubles. Hopefully the training will take place and you wont have a similar experience in the future.

According to the cashier it is only 1 tax paid on the item but even she didn't know which one but a J was...applied to my cat food and if you work out the tax on that item it was 13%.

When someone has coupons for free items, I always ask for them up front. What we do at our store is scan the item, total, write down the total on the coupon, suspend the transaction, do the same for any others. That way the correct tax is included in the coupon. Then once that is done, begin ringing up the order as normal. I ask for the freebie coupons up front because a transaction can only be suspended once, so don't want to get into the order, have them give me a free coupon....then later on, they give me another.

Don't the eye rollers realize that
if the customer feels that they are not treated nicely
the customer may not come back
and the eye roller may not be needed at the store
since there is not enough customers shopping there

I wish all cashiers would do what you do. I get all my taxables FPC's rung in first and give them my coupons because that way I know if it is correct or not.
