Holy Smokes. Pope Francis is on fire this month! TWO MAJOR controversial statements in relation to traditional beliefs in one month.

“When we read about Creation in Genesis, we run the risk of imagining God was a magician, with a magic wand able to do everything. But that is not so,” Francis said.

Now Francis is on to science??? How are they ever going to update my mother? She still thinks things you stick in your body, like tampons and contact lenses, are immoral.
Not sure if you meant for this to sound funny but my family had to ask why I was laughing. I come from a family of rcs though I wasn't raised in any religion. Your delivery of updating your mother sounds like you have a great sense of humour. I hope this doesn't offend.

(Recovering RC here too. I really admire his courage.)

Given the Catholic Hierocracy has been teaching this for 60 years....

The answer is actually yes. And in fact, the Roman Catholic Church has recognized Darwinian evolution for the past 60 years. It openly rejects Intelligent Design and Young Earth Creationism saying that it "pretends to be science." But the Church’s unique take on the theory, what it calls theistic evolution, still shows that Catholics have largely missed the point. Back in 1950, Pope Pius XII laid out his papal encyclical, “Humani Generis,” in which the Church’s official position on natural selection was laid out. The statement said that there’s no intrinsic conflict between Christianity and evolution. The theory, as articulated by Charles Darwin in On the Origin of Species, has withstood scientific scrutiny since its publication in 1859 — and the Church does not dispute this.

    This is not new news.
The father of the Big Bang Theory was a priest, as was Mendel, the founder of modern genetics.

Oh yes, I knew about the papal history and their thoughts on evolution. Just surprised he's slamming the world with one thing after another. Can't help but think something "else" is ahead and this is just part of a plan. . . Otherwise, the strategy would be extremely risky.

I don't personally believe in evolution or the big bang theory. I find there's way too many holes in it for starters. I also find it disrespectful to refer to God not being powerful enough to create the earth and everything on it (coming from someone who is supposed to be a high ranking Christian anyways) but than again religion seems like a free for all these days anyways, so not terribly surprising.

P.S. Lecale: Is that REALLY true??!! Lol

So in her view of women, no hair cuts, pierced ears, higher education, socks, nailpolish, driving, things that inspire laziness like household cleaners and elastic waistbands, etc. It's a big list.

    So there you go.
Well. . . on the upside. . .good have been a lot worse I s'pose.

Science and religion seemed conflicting. It's good that things are being clarified.

I agree wholeheartedly the 2 should be clarified. Science is proven fact (at least to the point we've come to learn thus far) but religion cannot be clarified by one man's "opinion". I find it odd he did not really even refer to the Bible at all. . . .
