I recently became a mom for the first time and I'm staying home with her.
I want to work from home to help with the bills, but don't know where to start.

I was wondering how many stay at home moms here work from home and what do you do?

I am lucky that I don't have to work as my DH makes enough I can stay with the kids but my sister is a SAHM and works doing at home party sales. She just plans her parties on evening and weekend when her DH is home to look after the kiddies or when there is no sport events going on.Let me know if you are interested in some more info on her job and I can have her send you some info cause she is always looking to hire anywhere in Canada. Lucky girl earned herself a trip south every year she has be in it for the past 10!!! This year she goes to St.Lucia with her DH all expensive paid!!

I sort of accidentally started a home business two years ago, and I love it . I make accessories for babies, kids and moms, so my kids are my product testers and my mommy friends give me fabulous new product ideas! Not only does it bring in a bit of extra income, but it also allows me to explore my creative side at the same time!

Congrats on your baby, and YAY to you for being a SAHM!

I was the higher income earner, and yet somehow we made it work by being very, very frugal!
I was a full-time teacher before our son was born, and so had EI for six months after he was born, and I withdrew pension money to stay home longer (er, I don't condone doing this!). Then when he was two, I did some substitute teaching, not much - mostly I was lucky enough to do tutoring evenings and weekend hours through a College, times when my husband could watch our son.

Wishing you luck in finding something which fits with your family! I know some women do Avon, Tupperware, PartyLite, Arbonne, etc. - but I never wanted to do that sort of thing.

Good luck in your decision. It is a common struggle that we have when we have children. If your husband works during the day, you can get a retail or grocery job that allows you to work at night. We did this when the children were growing up and it worked for us - we never had a babysitter. I didn't get a job in my field until the youngest one started grade one. You need to choose what is best for your family right now - you either give up time or money.

I'm generalizing here, but I think living a frugal lifestyle can alleviate a lot of the money struggles that people have these days. If you can watch out for the deals and use coupons wisely, you can often live within your means. For some people, the more they make, the more they spend, with little going into savings.

unless your a go-getter and don't mind constantly trying to hit up friends.. i'd stay away from anything peer to peer marketing ( Avon , Tupperware, PartyLite, Arbonne, etc.) those tend to take effort and putting yourself out there a fair bit to "sell sell sell" (i've known many a mom who got started when they had kids and dropped it when they realized how much harder it is then expected.. the products don't sell themselves)

for us i spend the time trying to save money.. he makes it i save it.. so instead of making more i put in decent effort to spend less

I've had luck working online, (was a quality rater for Google for a number of months). There is a very good website for WAHM's that I peruse often, it's got lots of good info/ideas, I'll pm you the details.

I have my own Photography business... I used to work in the Social Work field but since I have a child with special needs, I need more flexible hours.

Newspaper delivery? Adults with cars deliver the paper around here. Maybe it's something you could do early before your husband goes to work? Our paper always arrives sometime between 5 and 6 am.

I am also looking for work at home jobs. my dd goes to jk full-time but I have my son who is 2. so I can't work since I have to drop off-pick up my dd from school and don't want to give my ds to daycare because they are so expensive. can't work afternoons as my dh is self-employed and I never know what time he will be home.. I searched online for working at home but didn't find anything that I would trust.

My oldest will be 14 in April. So for 14 years I reserached all the things that I could do from home. I sold on eBay and researched other options for me. I found more scams then anything. I now own my own business in party sales for Scentsy. As Midnightly mentioned there is a lot of work involved. However I found that putting in an hour a day into my business is all I really needed to do. It has been almost a year since I started with the company and I have learned the ins and outs and things are really looking up for me. I would love to talk to you more about it if you are interested. My email is [email protected] As much as we ALL would love to get rich quick, there is no such thing. You do have to work hard for any kind of money you are going to make. I did all those online surveys and so on. They get boring after so long. With my business I meet different people and I make what I want of it. I can grow my business as much as I want to. And I am not going through all those junk emails anymore. You will not make millions but you will certainly make extra money if you are willing to out effort into it. Good luck!
