For those of you who live in Ontario, you don't even need to roll your coins anymore! At least, if you're located near a participating TD bank that has an automated coin counter.

Granted the accuracy of the machine may not be 100%, but my online research has shown people saying that it's pretty close and definitely worth the time saved. I used one this summer and it took about 15 minutes for me to get about 150$ worth of change (with nothing higher than a quarter) counted!

In case you were wondering, this is how it works. You dump your money into the machine a bunch at a time. If you have an account with TD, I believe you can deposit it straight to your bank account from the machine. However, if you're like me and are with another bank, you get a receipt from the machine and have to take it to a TD teller (on the same day, I believe), who will give you cash for it. If I recall correctly, it may take US pennies but definitely no higher amounts of US currency.

A list of the participating Ontario locations can be found on an existing SC thread here (thanks to Melody113)! Good luck to all of you, and my apologies for the long post =)

EDIT: I forgot to mention that unlike the change counters that I have seen at RCSS, the change counters at TD do NOT charge a premium!

Do you have to be a TD customer to do this for free? I have no qualms with counting though, I mostly just throw on a movie and count my monies!!!

I am doing the same thing this year Kevico. I have two large powered Nesquick containers that I am going to throw my pocket change into. It will be interesting to see what is there at the end of the year.

Nope! I don't have a TD bank account. You just give a teller the receipt printed from the machine and they give you cash. =)

I love doing this and have done it many times in my life! We have a jar that counts the coins as you put them in. Got it on sale for $5. In 6 months we have almost $400!!! My bf gets tips sometimes from his job so he puts them in there everyday and I put in all my change from breaking a bill. Its our emergency fund, I don't think we'll take it out for a long time.

I've tried to start this several times, but I always end up having to dip into the change when regular funds run low

What I would recommend is to buy a bank that is unopenable (they have some glass ones at Dollarama) that way you'll be less tempted! Only when you're ready to use it (when you've reached your goal) then you can break it open.
