i would be up for a cup o tea as well, but i think that if u want to share ur thoughts so vocally that u have to have open ears and listen to others points of view as well...
as people have pp people are not putting things up here to offend you (or the others who seem to take offense at every lil thing)

The ones I am referring to certainly are. There is no reason to type "cuz" instead of "because" or "R U" instead of "are you".
Not knowing when to use homonyms, such as your / you're / yore, etc. - that might well be a different story. Of course true dyslexia is different from being lazy - and I never suggested otherwise.
As for "super-blatant" not being a word...that's why I added a hyphen and didn't write it "superblatant".
PS: English isn't my first language, either!Last edited by screamy; Tue, Mar 16th, 2010 at 03:02 PM.

Uh...well, I'm not really here to start a pissing match about grammar, but part of my job is to edit copy. Creating compound words (even when they're not standard ones) is in fact a frequent and accepted practice. But that doesn't have anything to do with SC.

Really? Could've fooled us with your earlier post, Miss 'SPG'.

It's taken me ages to try to learn the language of texting. I know of at least 2 folks on SC who access the site via a blackberry, where long words are difficult if not pricy to use. That & the fact that folks of a certain age (man, do I sound old!) are accustomed to that vernacular. Can one of the young people educate me. Please?
& don't forget that most online spellchecks get this wrong as well.
Ooh, I think you, Tommy & I could have fun playing Scrabble. Who's in?
Mine either, actually. & no, my first language isn't cat, even if I'm the crazy Torontonian who takes her cat for bus rides in her purse.
Will I be seeing you next week at the meet?

The their/there/they're etc. type of mistake drives me crazy since it hinders communication, as does really bad grammar. The issue is more about trying to get a point across clearly - that's why we're on message boards. And, quite frankly, I agree that some people make so little effort it is hard to understand what they are saying.
Spelling/typos is less of an issue communicating, since most of the time your brain can sort it out while hardly noticing. But at the same time, that's the easy mistake to fix.
One of my friends uses her facebook status to regularly post grammar and spelling rules.... Screamy, maybe your signature space could be used for mini lessons, as a service to the public?Join Swagbucks for free GCs & prizes, just by searching: http://www.swagbucks.com/refer/Chicka
