It's a nice thing to do, not a "must-do." You are just showing your appreciation for the person's deals.

Sometimes I thumb up a thread just because it has had a lot of views but no comments. It doesn't encourage people to keep posting if their threads get ignored.

I try to both thumb up and rep wherever possible

I don't see anything wrong with it. There's so many newbies who don't even have a clue what the thumbs up is for, so why not remind them.

For me it doesn't really matter either way. I just enjoy reading everyones' posts regardless of whether they saved $1 or $100. I am just glad that people can actually save a little more money instead of giving it away. Besides we should be thankful that there are companies like P & G and SC Johnson and others. Just think, they could all be like McDonalds and not give a crack when you complain (been there, done that and there is no customer service, nor is there any concern over complaints with McD). Complained about no walk through service for truck drivers for a lousy 2 cheeseburgers 3 weeks ago. Phoned head office and they said "company policy".

When I joined SC in November, I didn't know that the most 'thumbs up' could win a prize. Then when I started reading posts asking for a thumbs up, I'd only give them if it was a good deal that I would benefit from! lol Or if it was a brag that amazed me! I try to Rep anyone who posts in any thread that I started.

I guess I'm more apt to not give a thumbs up to someone who asks for it... unless it's a really kickass deal!

Don't see the big deal. Being thanked in advanced for thumbs up is just peachy...just cause they "ask" or "thank in advance" doesn't mean I have to give them one. People on here are capable of thinking for themselves and should give thumbs up or down as they see fit and if someone wants to ask for a thumbs up (or indirectly by "thanking in advance") good for them! How else are they going to get credit for their posting a good deal? (personally I thought giving rep had something to do with being top poster--not the thumbs up! If I had known I would have given out tons of thumbs up to people by now!)
Besides how is this any different then the threads I've seen where people are asking people to go to such and such link to vote for them? I'm guessing those votes amount to something (a prize perhaps?) and most don't seems bothered by those threads?

If there isn't a rule against it then what's the problem? If it bothers you when someone does that then don't give them a thumbs up.

I say thumbs up to all!!!!
