With the ramen I cook it with 1 and a half cup of water instead of 2 and in a bowl I mix the seasoning, add soy sause and a dash of seame oil (the dark stuff with lots of flavour, Kadoya I believe) white pepper and either a dash or two of habanero hot sauce.

But were I to make it, if it's the same consistency as years ago, I use a little less milk than they say - and it was okay with tuna added. Just thinking of it, all I think of is how terribly salty it is.
It is cheap! One box makes a whole pot of the stuff... enough for a couple of people, or so it's meant to be.

1 box @ $0.50 cents. (Let's face it, we SC'ers can get it at that price or less )
2 oz. milk, $0.10 to $0.20, margarine or butter $0.05 to $0.20 = $0.65 to $0.90 for 1 or two people depending on who you are feeding.

Yup, it's cheap in my opinion.

I make KD without milk, just add some butter and the cheese packet that comes with it. I will sometimes fry up some ground beef will a bit of seasoning salt and mix it in my KD. Finally I add some black pepper and shredded cheese on top. Yum!

I don't buy it all the time, but it sure is yummy for a quick meal every so often. I make it lot's of different ways. Sometimes I make it classic. A favourite is to substitute the milk for tomato juice (omg it is soooo good!!). Sometimes ground beef and onions goes into it. Other times hot dogs jump in. It's very versatile stuff. I have tried making it with noodles and the bulk barn cheese powder, but it just doesn't taste the same.

Oh I forgot if my husband and son are eating it, it must be accompanied by large quantities of ketchup. I hate it like that, but to each his own.

When I was a kid I loved KD then went to SIL grandparents for lunch and granny made KD. She boiled the noodles, drained them and then fried them in bacon grease until crispy then put on plate and sprinkled the cheese on top. That was the end of my love for KD. DS loves it so we make it he usually eats 2 boxes so we make 3 and when dh makes it he adds cheez whiz, pork & beans and cut up fried wieners they love it. I like mine with a little extra milk and like the sharp mixed with an original.

Wow.... I never really gave any thought to what people might do to their KD before this thread... LOL Chips? NEVER thought of that before! We like to make ours without milk... Just enough butter to make the cheese adhere... lol Then we like cracked pepper on it.

Might try the frozen vegetable idea sometime... I've seen something like that in the Kraft What's Cooking mags and it looked pretty good!

I make it different almost every time. But lately I have been doing the following:
undercook it by a minute (6 minutes instead of 7 or 8)
drain it completely and then add the cheese mix and stir, and then add the margarine or butter. And if it's not creamy enough I'll put in a little bit of milk. I used to put in a ton of milk but now I'm not so good with dairy. I also used to put ketchup in it (I looove ketchup) but I don't anymore. Also white cheddar is my favourite
