It pays to read the manual. While thrift store shopping today I stumbled upon a rare find. A 100 channel programmable scanner that was being sold for $5.It is an older version, but retail you can see the price as 299.95 + Tax!!
Also you can see how many Safeway tickets I picked from the garbage today...about 150 in one trip.
Now when I got home obviously I was eager about my scanner...can't afford to buy a brand new one...so I plugged in 2 AA's and
didn't work...so I read the manual and discovered that the battery compartment pulls out and underneath is a spot for 2 more batteries so I am sure the thrift store didn't know this either and I am sure they just plugged in 2 AA's and saw it didn't work so they tried pawning it off...believe me, I check BC Auctions, EBAY and flea markets and you cannot get a scanner for less than $100 that works!! Check out the pics below.

Scanners are for listening to weather, Public Services, RCMP, Hospitals, Government agencies, logging roads, etc.
The tickets are from the safeway contest which I have been giving out inthe Canada Safeway thread.

My grandmother loved listening to her police scanner in the eighties while sitting in her kitchen. At the time, I thought it wasn't legal to use one in a vehicle for some reason. Is it okay to do now?
My dad was a truck driver whenever he had holidays from being a teacher/principal. He used to love talking on the CB. He even had a CB installed in our conversion van camper so he could listen to the CB while driving.
