nope I never gave a gift I had a family doc who see me most of the time then near the end I had a Ob and he wasn't the one to deliver #1 it was an older doctor with 3 other and there was also a head nurse and 3 others guess they had to learn some stuff and were all in my room.
As for the second baby the doctor never made it to the room in time and got there when the nurse cut the cord, everyone missed it cause no one listened to me.

We gave a box of chocolates to the doctor who delivered ds #1, she stayed all night in the hospital with me, having a nap in the room next door, and it was her birthday 3 days later so on her birthday we took her some chocolates.....

My doctor with Nicholas was awesome! I was in the hospital for 2 weeks trying to hold off labour so I saw him twice a day for 2 weeks! lol. Funny thing he actually missed the delivery too. Came in as Nic was being rushed away. After Nicholas was born & brought home from Sick Kids we had an appointment with the doctor becasue he wanted to check on Nicholas (my OB/GYN lol - not a fmaily doctor) He was so caring!!! I bought him & his nurse (who was also his wife) a fruit bouquet thingy where they make flowers out of strawberries & such!

We never gave a formal gift to any doctor but we did to the nursing staff. With all honesty the nurses do so much more than any doctor, they are just there to catch the baby. In my case I had 2 emergency c-s's and one planned so spent days and days in the hospital.
With my 1st baby we gave the nurse who was there the most with me and amazing a box of chocolates and some toiletries (a basket from SDM)
2nd baby we had an incredible nurse during my delivery and came into the OR with me and then kept visiting me. My sister was with me during labour after kicking my husband out of the room (he was getting annoying) and my sister mentione she worked for a large cosmetics company, she said OMG I love your mascara, it's all I use...so in the end we gave her a gift bag of goodies from them.
3rd baby one of the nurses happened to be retiring while I was there and they were throwing her a party (she took care of me the most and from my hubby's village in the Philippines) we got her a carryon bag as she was travelling and also my mom baked her a beautiful cake.
Doesn't have to be much, the nurses ROCK and I think appreciate things alot more. No disrespect to the doctors they saved my life twice but it's just different

A gift for doc never occurred to me...though, even if it had occurred to me, I probably wouldn't have.
He's nice and all, but he's a "cattle herder" when it comes to his patients and you're lucky to get 30 seconds of his time at a visit. In fact, when I was preg with #1 and we got referred there (because we didn't have a family doc yet, having just moved here), he initially refused to take DH as his patient--til I told him that if he didn't take DH, he wasn't getting me and baby either. lol.
That being said--trust your gut! If you liked the ob/doc and want to give a gift, then do so!Last edited by ninna; Wed, Sep 15th, 2010 at 10:56 PM.

I gave my OBGYN and the "main" Nurse I had both a Thank you card and a small picture of DH, DS and myself.
I LOVED my Doctor and my "main" Nurse Jill WAS AMAZING!!!
Jill never left my side from the am when her shift started (I guess around 7am) until DS was born around 1:40pm.
I hand delivered both cards and when Jill accepted the card, she started to cry (with happiness of receiving the card). I wish I could have given more to both individuals.

I had excellent health care compared to my last delivery. So yes, I gave a thank you note and gift to all. They were just small gifts with photo of baby.
1. OB/Family Doctor and his 2 recept. (Now I get in always!!!! No wait lol)
2. Diabetic Specialist
3.Surgeon and his recept (I hope to go back if this skin flap doesn't go away!!!)
They answered all my questions and were there with me through a difficult pregnancy. It is really hard to find great health care these days (I find) I wanted them to know I really appreicated everything for helping me bring a healthy baby boy into the world. To me it's priceless!!!

I had amazing care throughout my pregnancy, delivery, admission and stay and also when DS was admitted for a few days...
Sent thank you cards to DR staff, my OB, Obstetrical Floor Staff & Baby Nursery staff... tried to mention thanks to everyone by name... tried to write down the name of each nurse/PSA we had.
Forgot to thank my OBs primary nurse and DS' neonatologist & resident...
If I had the opportunity again, Timmies Gift Cards are a great idea... i would be sure to mention the people that looked after us personally... sometimes gifts get 'lost' in the shuffle

I gave my doctor a cheque for her foundation that gives scholarships to students. She is also the head of OBGyn and a teaching doctor so I did that instead of a gift. It was actually her secretary that suggested it because I told her I didn't want to give her some knick knack and she mentioned the foundation.

Many hospitals actually have a policy that doctors, nurses and other staff are NOT to accept gifts from patients. Just throwing that out there.
