Shouldn't it be your specialist dealing with this stuff? I know it might be a pain in the butt to see the specialist, but that's why they're there - to get you the meds you need.

I know that DH's specialist has told him to consult him with any sympotms of anything instead of our regular doctor just because of conflicts with medications and such (DH has severe Chron's).

You d think. But he told me to go through my family doctor. I mentioned the iron and he told me instead of the pills mention the shot to my family doctor. He made it sound like a piece of cake - ask and get. Its not like I havent tried the pills before. But nope clearly not.

DH's is awesome - young, but knows what he's doing. He's only been seeing this one for 5 months or so, but we're both really happy with this one.

Ricki - get yourself over to a walk-in clinic. The heck with tjat idiotic family dr (I`ve had those twits too). Tell them your iron is dangerously low (the 'nurse' is clueless, btw, if your iron is that low you should not be taking pills, you need more) & you need help, but your Dr is not doing his job.

On second thought, don`t mention your dr. Just go & say you think you`re anaemic, you think your iron is low. Tell them all your symptoms. Tell them you can`t take iron pills or eat certain foods & don`t know what to do.

Tell them you`ve been talking to others who have had similar issues & list the suggestions we`ve given you here (shot, iron infusion, epo shot).

Hes at home - its really hard to get into spec anywhere. Since he doesnt have many patients I got in before being diagnosed in 2 days and the other spec would have been 6 months to a year. I wasnt going to wait that long. This spec is new (well fairly new). He educated but not very much with chrons and colitis. He amasing with everything else - basically my whole family goes to him and my dad says hes good - which means a lot since my dad haes docs and will only go if he has too. Its basically no bleeding thats all he does. Plus, every so many months do the whole blood work for the liver and all that.

Hes keeping me on the Pentasa since it works and the only thing really is stop going to school

Anyways...

Im off to go become anti social and hibernate to my bedroom.

Went to the walk in clinic on campus plus someone down the street (my roomate drove since I get so lost LOL). I told them my symptoms and said both said majority of them sound like low iron. Ask if I had issues in the past and I answered honestly with a yes. Err I mentioned I had colitis and literally the one shut right up and said I have to go to my family doc then. The second one basically said its most likely stress with school and I just need to eat properly. I mentioned about getting basic blood work and she said no she doesnt think thats required. Told me to eat a alanced diet and Ill be fine if I have any other issues I should see my family doc because he would know more & my history (clearly not).

So my mommy made a doc appointment and shes coming to hold my hand again. I thought those days were over when I turned 19 and I finally figure out what was wrong. Shes demanding that I get the shot. She said if they wont do it then shell take me to the hospital till they order it.

Good - something definately needs to be done. I'm sorry you're having such a hard time with your doctors. I hope I never have to experience what you are going through.
