Thanks for the words everyone.
Thanks for the Poutine lesson.
I make it with the curds, love curds, they are so tangy and salty and yummy.
Many places make it with mozza cheese, it's good that way too, just the curds are better.
I use whatever gravy I have, but like home made chicken gravy on them the best.
I have to hide the curds when I buy them or the kids will eat all and they are not cheap.

Yep, I'm learning a lot here
I read more than what I posted also. Seems like the majority say that it just isn't poutine without the curds. I have to say the only time I have heard of curd is on a cottage cheese container, curds in the Little Miss Muffett rhyme, and curdle is what my milk used to do before the kids got old enough to drink it all in 2 days.
so...was Little Miss Muffett really eating poutine?
I'll save the gravy debate for another post

Whey or milk plasma is the liquid remaining after milk has been curdled and strained; it is a by-product of the manufacture of cheese or casein and has several commercial uses. Sweet whey is manufactured during the making of rennet types of hard cheese like cheddar or Swiss cheese. Acid whey (also known as sour whey) is obtained during the making of acid types of cheese such as cottage cheese.

Thanks for the words Rebate Queen
Wow...9am and I'm SO craving a poutine! I might just have to break down and clog up my arteries with one tonight!
The Acadians do NOT call it 'peu-tin' as the information listed!!!! I'm Acadian and live in an all Acadian territory(well, okay, 95% of us are Acadians) and have been to Québec quite a few times and we pronounce it the same as they do, "poo-tin" like poo as in Winnie the Pooh and tin as in a tin can!!! I laughed when I read "peu-tin"!!! I've had it in Québec a few times and yes, they do serve it with cheese curds and it's so much yummier...also, their KFC's also have it on their menues and they serve it with curds as well...here in Nova Scotia, most of us just use Mozza because it's much cheaper and easier to find.
I use regular cut fries (homemade fries are even yummier though)
Grated Mozzarella
1 can of St. Hubert's BBQ POUTINE gravy!
I add salt/pepper to taste and put some ketchup on top.
When I order it at a restaurant, I always order it with extra
cheese because I LOVE the melted mozza
It is very yummy...it's also extremely yummy with spaghetti
sauce on top instead of gravy with the curds/mozza melted
over it...I don't add any ketchup to that though...you could
even put chili on top too, have tried that as well
Thanks for the info RQ, it was interesting to read...I knew it
originated from Québec but it was interesting to hear the story
behind it
Thanks for the words and rep everyone!
Have a great Wednesday - it's HUMP day!
Gave rep where I could!
I think the KFCs here serve it also as I have ordered it at
KFC in Nova Scotia before...Last edited by PetiteFemme; Wed, Sep 3rd, 2008 at 08:14 AM. Reason: To add at bottom:
