My Mom wished my sister would be with her at Christmas, too. She just had surgery on Thursday (her birthday) and was released from hospital - I was being a good daughter taking care of her.
Unfortunately, since we are all tight with money, I was only able to get a flight for December 29th and still return on 7th of January using Aeroplan miles (my friend offered giving away his miles).
However the round trip total is 25,000 miles so only had 24,255 but a top up of $24.41 total after GST then $108.50 airport taxes including fuel or whatever.
So my sister only owes my friend $132.91 total for when she gets to Toronto from Vancouver.
That's a pretty good deal especially for the holidays!!

You're awesome to do this. We flew my sister home with a new baby once to surprise our Mom on her birthday a number of years ago. Mom was shocked beyond belief. Her jaw nearly hit the floor. Certainly captured that moment on film. Enjoy your holiday.
