There are so many posts to quote but let me just say that I'm so glad you're not giving up on couponing, don't let them win!! Big hugs to you,
you can do it! It's hard sometimes, if I get a crabby clerk, it's usually b/c they wish they could get things that cheap, I try to stand my ground and not look at the customers behind me
.
What you are doing by staying at home with your little ones is hard work and very rewarding work!! I too am at home with my little ones and keep trying to spread out my DH's income by using coupons and getting great deals.
The clerks and "manager" should not have treated you that way, if you find the time you should send a complaint to SDM, they should know their staff are treating their customers this way. Stores get all of the money back from accepting coupons as well as a handling fee. So by you going to their store to buy their products it should be a win/win situation, we win by saving money and they win by increasing sales.
I often have that same feeling of people watching or staring but I've been told a couple times that they're usually looking at my cute kids or looking at the great deal I've found!!If you haven't joined Swagbucks yet, it's a great way to earn amazon gift cards and many others by simply using their search engine or doing easy clicks. I am having a bit of a giggle right now............I live in Port McNeill which is about the same size as Gold River. I am about two hrs North. I felt the same way as you do using coupons in the stores here in Port McNeill. I have had my moments with cashiers here also
,You would think that they are handing out there own money! I still use coupons in Port McNeill but is I am going to use alot I travel down island to bigger stores. You should plan shopping trips to Campbell River.(there is a SDM there I am sure) With what you saved between Superstore,Zellers,SDM, save-on it would more than make up for gas! I know a woman there that might not mind a shopping partner........I will PM you with her name! Take care, try and have a good day and happy shopping.DO NOT GIVE UP ON COUPONS.

i agree with what most people are saying on in this thread.. dont let one bad experience through you down.. if anything.. stock up on coupons and shop there more frequently to get under there skin... i am a VERY shy/timid person and when i first started using coupons it was scary if they dident accept it.. i wudent argue.. put it away and pay full price... now im the crazy lady holding up lines waiting for managers to come and argue with me about wether or not im right.. haha.. you win some.. u lose some.. dont let the sour pickle at SDM discourage you....=)

I just re-read your edited post....
You've got to be kidding?! Your antics? Staff on alert? I would insist they explain to me how they came to such a conclusion b/c of wanting to use some coupons?!We know about you! WE are on to your antics, I said pardon me?! She said, my staff are on alert for you!
You really need to tell them that you did nothing wrong; that you do not appreciate being humiliated in front of customers! Whatever happened to customer service? You did not deserve to be treated like that just b/c of a product misunderstanding! Perhaps writing a letter may be an idea for you as it's sometimes easier putting things down on paper so you are able to say everything you need to say.
I really hope that with all the support you are getting via this thread, that you find the courage to go back there with a positive attitude, and a ton of coupons in hand!
Please don't give up! I believe you are destined to get some good out of this experience, and I can't wait to hear about it!

I don't know if anyone has said this yet. But don't worry, I use to get sooooo nervous before using coupons because cashiers would do that too. But as you do it more you get use to it and are able to defend yourself better, because the manufactures put those coupons out for you to USE, and your doing nothing wrong. Now, I stack like crazy at london drugs all the time out here and usually they let me pass with no problems, and this was something that use to put knots in my stomach!

WOW guys I can't thank you enough for all the encouragement! This is awesome, I am feeling more confident with every post I read, I can't believe people actually care

I am in Powell River BC and there are no other towns near by unless you take a Ferry and that costs more than I would probably be saving
so I can't just drive to the next town or believe you, me I would!

Comox/Courtenay isn't that great for shopping so really are NOT missing anything. It's the kind of town where you will always be an "outsider' no matter how long you live there.

Wow, this story is unreal!!! I would totally be contacting head office if you haven't already. After working in retail for several years I know that it's up to the manager to make sure the rules and such are followed but never to make a customer feel belittled and cry that is just rude and this manager needs to be reported to HO as I am sure you aren't the first person that this happened to and if you are then you won't be the last. If she has other strikes against her maybe all they need is your complaint to get rid of her!!! Or you could be starting her file of negative reports that she rightfully deserves and I think she should have to apologize to you in person!
Good for you for over coming such a crappy experience and not giving up on couponing. If possible just shop at SDM when she's not working and or price match like the other posters have said if you have other stores that allow that then SDM doesn't get the sales anyhow

Best of luck!!!

I just wanted to say my husband was furious at how they treated you. He said call the head office on how they treated you because if you live in a small area it could be considered character defamation (sp)...he think you could have a potential lawsuit lol.

=(...that is TERRIBLE!!
I probably would have cried too! They had no right to judge your character just because you were looking for a good deal
My advice...dont give up! There is always good and bad that come with everything. In the case of couponing, its mostly ups because of the high your get when you save so much money, the extra money you have in your pocket, and so on
But unfortuantly, with the same territory, you get B**** cahsiers. Just try not to let it get you down and keep on couponing!!
