I find it amazing that it's just Mattel stuff that's being recalled -
has anyone heard if it's just because they are now checking all Mattel products?

Another Huge Toy Recall Rocks North America
Wednesday September 26, 2007
CityNews.ca Staff
It's getting so parents have to wonder just what they can trust anymore. There has been another massive toy recall in North America, involving more than 600,000 playthings, implements and children's jewelry. But while the product list is new the problem isn't - it's another case of concern about lead contamination.
At least five of the items called back were from the popular "Thomas The Tank Engine and Friends" series - including 200,000 wooden railway toys. Other items on the list: "Knights of the World" toys and a series of children's chairs and garden tools.
All the suspect products are believed to contain excessive levels of lead that could be hazardous to the health of children if they put them in their mouths. Too much of the substance can cause developmental problems or even brain damage in youngsters. It's the latest in what must seem like a never ending series of callbacks of products made in China - although Mattel, which was involved in several of them - admitted it was to blame and not the Far Eastern country.
But for parents worried that anything they buy is suspect, it doesn't much matter who's at fault - just that these dangerous items wound up in their kids' possession in the first place.

Thanks for the info. basically all of my girls Thomas Train set will be going back and it sucks because they don't make it easy to return these items.

These recalls are just crazy.
I am getting worried about the presents that I will be buying for Christmas.
Someone needs to get better regulations in place.
These are kids toys that they are getting slack with

OMG. That is horrible. Those poor parents thinking they were keeping their little one safe by putting him in a playpen. That rips my heart apart.

that is horrible! but i have to say why would you put your baby in the playpen with the change table on top and walk away? i don't care how safe a product is suppose to be you should always check these things. i know sometimes you can get side tracked but the article did say there was a warning about having the change table up when baby was in the playpen. sometimes we take for granted that just because things are made for our children that we don't have to take safty precautions.
