Question about "rep power"

Hi,

I get the basics of getting and receiving rep and have read the site overview, but I still have one question that I can't figure out.

I currently have 13 little green and orange square thingees to represent my rep (no stars, no hearts). It says my rep power is 27.

But others who have the same number or fewer little square thingees (and no stars or hearts) have a much higher rep power -- like 60+.

How is rep power calculated? Is the rep you give others factored in when calculating rep power? What am I missing?

I am not completely sure but i have just come to notice that most peoples rep is a similar number to the post count? if you look at your rep and post count
269posts =27rep

and mine.... hold on let me post this so i can see what mine is

so maybe your rep is your post count minus the last number? lol

or maybe thats just purely coincidence? Im not exactly sure.

Rep power used to depend on post count, I don't think it is anymore, but I could be wrong cause mine looks the way elliott described too.

I wanna know how to get a heart already!

Thanks elliott_gyal and . I looked at a bunch of users (in our favourite SB thread and for all of them:

rep power = # of posts / 10 (give or take 1).

So mystery solved I think. I guess I don't need to give more rep... I need to post more.

As for how to get the heart... beats me, but I noticed elliot_gyal has different colour stars than you. So maybe the colour of the stars has something to do with it?

ya the stars are like a sliding scale, once you have enough you get a heart and then it goes back to no stars and so on. Although I've never read a clear explanation of how many stars and what colours it takes to get a heart.
