Is somebody can help me. Yesterday, I went to Zellers and SCOP. The item was regular price 29.99 and there was a sign from last week sale still there at 19.99. The cashier told me because there was a date on the sign she didn't want to gave me the 10$ of but only give it to me at 19.99. I look at the SCOP law and they don't specify nothing about if the the shelf tag specifi dates like from xxxx to xxx 2010 ??

The onus is on the store to replace expired signage. Had I been the manager I would have honoured SCOP as the oversight was on the part of the store.

You could talk to the manager and ask for a refund of the extra you were charged, if you don't get anywhere you can register a complaint with the Scanner Price Accuracy Committee: 1-866-499-4599

Actually Zellers doesn't participate in the Scanning Code of Practice. You can see a list of stores that participate further up in this thread.

    Oh that's right, they don't.

They would file for bankruptcy if they did, 80% of their merchandise scans incorrectly.

I had an actual Vice-President call me yesterday to discuss the RCSS situations.

Hi Manou141 - the date on the sign should have nothing to do with it. You should have received $10 off.

I tried to use SCOP at walmart today and had no luck. There was a big sign in the middle of an aisle with the price listed as 5.47, there were electrosol tabs, and large bottles of jet dry (the jet dry was on the sides of the center display). Jet dry rang in at 7.97, i told the cashier the correct price. She started to price overide to 5.47, so i asked about SCOP. She got a CSM who went and found a price tag on the shelf (not where i found the jet dry) for 7.97, so i showed her where i had found it. She said she had to get another CSM. That CSM said that it was supposed to be 7.97, but she would give it to me for 5.47.... i chose not to take it.

Is there anything I can do to complain? I know that i was correct, even the first csm was agreeing with me.

    as post 1 says
Scanning Code of Practice: If the scanned price of a non-price item is higher than the shelf price or any other displayed price, the customer is entitled to receive the first item free, up to a $10 maximum. If a Code of Practice problem cannot be resolved at the store level, please call 1-866-499-4599 to register your complaint.
so call the 800# to complain

A good reminder: Know the code before you blast someone, I've read enough times on here about how people have yelled at cashiers about it, only to find out LATER that it doesn't apply at that store. I've also had enough experience of customers not understanding the code blasting me about it, I know the code, it's right on the side of my monitor, I'm not stupid.

Print the SCOP, and the participating stores list, and keep a copy in your purse (or glove-box if you're a guy). Also, highlight the stores you use on a regular basis and the specific paragraph that explains the basis of SCOP. You can quickly pull it out if you have any problems in store.

This makes it so much easier, and you won't have to argue with staff who don't know about SCOP, or insist their store doesn't participate in it.
