ExpiredOn tonight's news there was a segment about Free Trial offers with shipping. I know most SCers are savvy enough to know that they are scams but I thought a reminder or heads up couldn't hurt.
If you see any ads saying you can get a free trial or freebie and all you have to do is pay for shipping.....DON'T DO IT!!
People have been duped into doing this and end up paying $100's of dollars for these so called freebies. What you are actually signing up for is probably to have monthly or periodic shipments of whatever you think is a one time free trial. And you'll be on the hook for charges.
Please if it looks too good to be true don't do it! Don't fall for anything that says free but give me your credit card number! It's bad enough that many sign up for completely free "freebies" and get whacked with spam but to get lured into these scams is just so much worse!
BEWARE!

Thanks for posting this kiwis-mom. When I first started out I signed up for a few free offers that I now know are scams to get my contact info (free snuggie, anyone?
), and I wonder how many other newbies have had to learn the hard way?
I think it would be great if people posted known scams like this to SC as a warning for others... maybe in a new sticky like the one we have for "Freebies that never come"? That way at least the names would come up in a search for those who know to do so.Last edited by SweetDeals; Fri, Mar 12th, 2010 at 02:29 PM.

Thanks for the heads up!
I know some freebies that dont require shipping costs but still send you crap months later. I know the wrinkle cream (same company that sends the tights) send you a empty free samples then send a bill alone with it. I sent it back all crossed out and havent heard anything again. I also called their customer service and was nasty LOL.Please! Vote for me! Yeah I saw something like that on the news, it had to do especially with websites the offer "acai berry" supplement pills. They offer a free sample, and then continue sending you more pills that you have to then pay for. My best advice is to never use your credit card online

I would also like to add that free "freebies" it's best to deal only with reputable, well known companies (ie Pampers, Huggies, etc). If you've never heard of the company than don't do it. You just never know what you are going to get and no freebie is ever worth the hassle of spam, junk mail or worse.

I just signed up for something last week and I'm nervous!
They say if you cancel your subscription within 14 days, you don't get any charges (I paid $4 for a trial.) I read all the fine print, but no one has gotten back to me! I'm going to call my CC company, I think!!!
