I went to SDM this morning looking for the degree coupons. Unfortunatley not luck finding them
. So I strolled over to the clearance section and noticed they had aveeno lotions ( 222 ml & 304 ml) on clearance for $3. This can't be
! sure it enough they were only $3 so out comes my coupon binder and I have 6 coupons for $2 off aveeno lotion
(2 french and 4 english) WOW! What a score. so I go to the register to check out. In my basekt I had 2 dove lotions (clearance to $2 each) 2 lubriderm lotions(Clearnace to $2 each) and 6 Aveeno lotions (3, 222 ml & 3, 304 ml) As I am waiting in line I noticed I had the wrong coupons for the dove and lubriderm
so when it was my turn at the register I explained to the lady that I didn't want these items (although a great price but since I didn't have a coupon). I handed her my coupons for the Aveeno lotion and then she looked in my cart and noticed my coupon binder
Cashier - Seriously, are those all coupons?
me - yes, maam they are
cahsier - that must be a full time job in itself, you must not have a very busy life!"
Me - (taken aback at her insintuation that I don't have a life although I work a full time job, I am extremely active in our church, a mother of 3 a wife....... the list could go on) yes, it does take time, but saving money is worth the time involded.
Cashier - I can't even remember to take one coupon with me to the store, plus it take to long for them to be rung through, but I guess I get to take the time to put them through now don't I.
me - Yes, and I appreciate that thank you.
Cashier - (after putting through the 4 english coupons, noticed the 2 french ones) these are in french
me- yes maam they are they are identical to the english ones you just did.
Cashier - I don't think we can take them because that is doubling up on coupons
me - no maam, I am purchasing 6 different products with 6 different coupons so how can it be doubling up?
Cashier - because it is, I am not sure I can take these
me- You do understand that if you refuse french coupons that could be considered discrimination.
Cashier - how
me - Correct me if I am wrong but the 2 main languages in Canada are french and english, the reason your products have french/english wrote on them because of this very fact. So what your saying is those people who only speak french are not allowed to use coupons?
Cashier - (taken aback by my response) I guess that is something I will have to check later.
She then scanned the coupons reluctantly. I tried hard to keep it together and not make a scene but I seriously could not get over the fact that she judged my life as being worthless because I take the time to get/use coupons!!!! Grrrrrrrr........
If it weren't for the optimun points I would never walk through the doors of this store again. Thanks to all for listening to my rant
after it was all said and done I got 6 aveeno lotions for $6. I guess that is why I put myself through this

She was probably just kidding around with the not having a busy life comment, sometimes people do not think before they speak, she probably didn't mean it in a negative way.
Was she old? I notice you kept calling her ma'am.

she was an older lady and the tone in her voice was very rude so I think she meant it. As for calling her Ma'am it is habit, I am from the south and that is how we had to refer to people growing up.

I see so many threads on how SDM is such a bad place to shop, poor customer service etc, but yet sooo many people show there. Just saying is all.

I had cashiers being rude to me, too.
they are just gelous that we take time for the extra work and get coupons(and so better deals).
It depends on my mood too - if they get too rude, I'm complaining to the manager.
But most of the time I try not to let thm get to me.
You did awesome!!!

I hear a lot of comments about SDM cashiers as well BUT I have to say, both stores I go to in town are awesome - super nice cashiers, never have any issues with them!
So sorry she gave you a hard time though - I probably wouldn't have known what to say so good for you!

Remember at the end of the day you got some great deals and optimum points to boot! Some people are just miserable and don't like seeing others get good deals, their just jealous. Keep on couponing!
