I agree with everyone on being put to sleep! Just follow the dentists instructions and you'll be fine. Make sure you get t3s or stronger though, if you get dry sockets you are going to need them.

    Good luck

I had mind taken out when my firstborn was 5 months old. It wasn't bad. I had 2 impacted and 2 straight pulls and was put under.

My mom took the day off to watch my baby, and spent the night "to help out". Of course as soon as I was home, my babe refused the bottle... so I nursed. And was up nursing and caring for her that night (my mom was sleeping in the same room and didn't hear her fussing). If I wasn't on leave, I would have been fine to return to work on Monday (had it done on a Friday). We went on vacation a week later and I was able to eat normally while we were gone.

First off, get/ask for Motrin 600's - Dr's don't often prescribe them, because everyone favours T3's. But the Motrin doesn't make you all loopy - in fact you can drive safely while taking it. And it helps the pain way better than T3's. Second of all, you must, no questions about it have someone, anyone, available to watch your kids for the first day (immediately after surgery) you will not be in any state to deal with anyone (if you are getting gas you'll not even be aware of anything - funny story DH had his done almost a year ago, and he had taken my cell to text a message to me since he couldn't talk, and it took him 20 min to type out the 3 words!lol! Once he was home I set him up with the laptop (Word) and he was typing to me for about 4 hours....when he later scrolled back to the beginning he said he didn't even remember asking the questions he did.) Dh had his surgery on a Thursday, and was back to work on the Monday...he was eating pudding mind you, but the weekend was enough for him to "rest up". I on the other hand was awake for my removals (right side and left side were done 6 months apart) and I was less loopy than DH, but I also liked having half of my mouth usable.
You'll be fine Just make sure you have some help for the first day, and get lots of rest Cup a soup was a staple (the powdery stuff NOT the Mr. Noodle Cup a Soup).

Is it safe to nurse the baby after you were just put under? I'm just thinking the stuff would still be running through you and go straight to the baby?

did the disinfectant mouth wash sting really badly? are you talking about something like scope mouth wash or is it dif?

No, it didn't sting at all. Just keep in mind you can't have anything with a straw cause sucking can pull at the area. So spoon feed yourself and it will be covered and protected. It's not scope it's a special anti bacterial stuff that's for oral surgery (I'll check the brand when I get home since I think I still have the bottle). It tastes terrible but kept me infection free.

As I said, if you take an anti anxiety drug before the surgery you really won't care at all what's going on. I'm TERRIFIED of needles and blood (I faint when I have to get blood tests), and was very anxious about the whole thing but the little pill chilled me out and the whole experience was not in the least traumatic and because I wasn't put under the whole recovery was MUCH faster because my body didn't need to recover from that either.

And my teeth had to be cracked, pulled out in pieces and they had to cut up into my jaw to do it cause mine were fully impacted + the one that the impact had cracked had to be taken out.

Really, despite all the horror stories you're hearing, it's not that bad so long as you have a support plan in place (someone's going to need to mind your kids for at least that day, cook a couple days food and soup for yourself ahead of time and load up the fridge, stuff like that to ensure the next couple days are as restful as possible). Talk to your dentist, express your concerns, go over your options and what his experience is. I totally recommend the Valium.

I would pump as much as possible ahead of time. I wouldn't nurse after surgery or while taking some of the drugs you need to take post surgery (Motrin, T3s, whatever).

I had the uppers taken out and then the lowers on separate visits. Lowers were first and a little painful after the fact. I had a little bruising and swelling, but all in all not too bad. I didn't take well to the Tylenol 3's and once I stopped them I was fine. I believe I went out drinking and dancing the nite I had the uppers removed. Oh to be 22 again...

I was just asking a nosy question not actually preggers or nursing but I agree you don't want to risk the babies health

I had all four of my widsom teeth taken out when I was 17, I went under and woke up in a complete daze with a mouth full of cotton and blood. But for the first time in three years I didn't have a headache from the impacted wisdom teeth (or jaw pain, but that was the drugs still working, lol).
I would recommend the salt water rinse, it works. I had stiches too, they gave me a syringe to stick into the hole to rinse out any food that gets caught where the tooth used to be, do that, very important.
I couldn't eat solid food for about a week, but that was just me (hurt too much), you may not be that way.
Just follow the instructions for the doc and you should be great.
I still have the two teeth they didn't have to break to pull out, they're freakin' huge!

I got mine out when I was 18, no biggie. I reacted badly to the T3's and I clenched my jaw so much that after wards it couldn't relax, eventually had to have physio for it (3 years later). I'd definitely make sure you have a plan in case you react badly to the meds, or just don't recover as well as others have. I was out of it for a least a week (passed out in the middle of a first year lecture and that was 5 days after)....

Unless you already have a fear of needles/procedures, I wouldn't worry about taking an anti-anxiety medication, seems wholly unnecessary.
Did you see the pool? They flipped the B!tch!

    I'm going to South Korea!

I suggest getting together the following items for your recovery:

    1) Get yourself some flexible ice packs. Buy at least 2 sets ( 1 for your face, while the other cools in the freezer).
    2) Get some gauze to hold the ice packs to your face.
    3) Buy a blender and smoothie making supplies. You'll probably live off this for the next few weeks after the procedre.
    4) Buy some instant fiber and protein that can be mixed into your smoothies.

I had 7 teeth out total when I got my wisdoms done, Im not sure how it went because I got knocked out for it lol. I do know however that they were so rough with my I will have jaw problems for the rest of my life Anyways, the pain wasn't too bad just took advil and some tylenol threes for a few days. Its really not that bad pain wise. But then again I've had 2 kids with no pain meds lol.

THIS is why I didn't want to be put under. When you're awake they're much gentler with you, you don't see the bruising and swelling that you get when you're under and they just yank them out either.
