My stockpile and 2 freezers are bursting at the seams...it's time for me to try living off it! I am going to spend this week writing out a 2 week meal plan and on Sunday I will buy milk, eggs and yogurt as a final shop. All other things such as bread, meat and vegetables are already in the freezer. I really want to see if we can survive off the stash and not spend a cent on groceries....well, I don't need to see if I can do it...I KNOW I can do it...just have to stay out of the stores!

2 weeks without spending a cent...stay tuned to find out how much money I have left in my bank account to put into an extra mortgage payment!

Maybe I'll post what we end up having for meals too...I want to be creative and not just be warming up Stouffers! Proper meals!

    KellyC

I did just that 2 years ago. ( well sort of) I didn't keep a log, or journal, but what I basically said was " no food is coming in here till we use up what we have " lol
I was anal about it as I was off work and I controlled what all the meals were etc.
I found it a wonderful challenge to get creative with recipes trying to use whatever ingredients were on hand to make something.
Like you stated, above certain things ( dairy, fruit ) need to be bought fresh, but the grocery bill is almost NIL!!

I am looking forward to coming back to this thread to follow your results/progress. It is wonderful to do this as I found that a stockpile is good but at some point you need to " purge" and re-access what you have/need/want.
    Good experiment my dear!

I did that yesterday! Pulled out some long lost freezer burned steaks (sob) so I chopped them up and put them into the slow cooker for the day. I also found some chicken (Dec 2010, so not that old) so those are on the menu for tonight. I am determined to eat up the food in the freezer *lol* my parents are coming for a visit at the end of April, so my goal is to eat as much as we can before they come, and then I stock up with "fresh" frozen stuff before they arrive

This is such a great idea....maybe I should try it. I usually find that if I stay home and not go into the stores I can manage to save quite a bit of money, so I limit my shopping to about every two weeks or so. Good Luck.

I'm also looking forward to seeing what you come up with for meals! I'm always looking for ideas for using up what I already have in the house. Good luck!!

I've sort of been doing the same thing, only a bit longer term than 2 weeks. I'm trying to only use things like airmiles, PC and HBC points and promotional gift cards to buy perishables and everything else is coming out of my stockpile.

    How's it working out?

I've been making a bit of a list of meal ideas and I bet I could do it for a month! I'll start at 2 weeks and see how it goes first!

I am moving 5hrs away in a month, so I have been limiting my shopping for over a month already. Trying to have less stuff to move with me. Certainly no adding to my stock pile of any kind.
